Inspire HR tracked usual number of steps during morning walk. Was at 15 000 (ish) when I synced in the app and the app added an extra 14 000. 

When you check the stats (bar graph) it shows these steps at the sync time (so 14 000 steps in a 15 Min interval). No vibrations or anything, was sitting at a desk and after the app sync the watched started showing incorrect steps (and distance etc) too.

Is there anyway to remove the extra steps and prevent future glitches?

Let me help you with your Ftbit account showing additional steps. Do you have any third party app linked to your account? Or have you logged any activities on your account? These scenarios may add steps to your account. Also could you share a screenshot of what you are seeing on your activities area?

Mine has done the same thing twice now, most recently I'd done 10,629 steps I synced to the app and now it's reading 32,305 all added at the time I synced. Help!
