Detailed “sleep” stats when I am awake

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a relatively low resting heart rate (51 to 55ish) and find that whenever I am at a movie theater or watching TV, my Inspire HR decides that I am asleep. Most of the time these “sleep” episodes are short (<3 hrs) so there are no stats associated with them. So I just delete them from my log.

But if I watch TV and then walk around for just a bit before going to bed, my fake “sleep” session is combined with my actual sleep. So for example, last night, I “slept” for 11 hours despite the fact that the time period included watching TV, getting up to get ready for bed, sitting up and reading in bed, and then sleeping.

More disturbingly, I watched two movies last week, and the time “asleep” was about 4 hours. During that time I was sitting up on the couch, eating popcorn, and watching movies.

The time “asleep” was analyzed into Awake, REM, and Deep Sleep sessions. I was not asleep at all. This makes me wonder whether the sleep analysis has any accuracy at all.

sorry if this is a topic that was already covered. I could not find it in a search.

@MaryKit Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I hope you're doing well! Sorry for the delay in my reply.

Let me help you with your sleep records. Your device will start recording sleep after it detects an hour of inactivity. If you have a light sleep or move too much then this may difficult your sleep detection and the opposite is true so you don't move the device may think you are sleeping. You can try wearing your device on your dominant hand to increase the amount of movement it is subjected to and change the sleep settings to sensitive. Finally you can restart your device. You can also manually log your sleep time. You can read more about sleep detection here.

Let me know how it goes.

Those are good suggestions and I will try them.

But I don't think that they address the issue of my device analyzing my "apparent sleep sessions" into Awake, Deep, and REM cycles. I am not asleep when watching a movie or TV, and I am certainly not deeply asleep or dreaming. That analysis appears to depend on heart rate fluctuations. So it just sets off alarm bells to me that when I am truly sleeping, the data analysis is suspect.

I also have a low resting heart rate. And every night my pre sleep ritual of watching a show or reading is recorded as part of my sleep. Sometimes this is 1.5 to 2 hours of incorrect data.

The whole point of this device was to monitor my heart rate and sleep per the request of my physician.
