Exercise tracking when on clip

I just replaced my original Inspire (~2 years old) as the exercise tracking feature stopped working. I set up my new device last week, and it seemed to be working well (tracking bike rides and walks to/from work, all wearing it on my hip). Two days ago, I noticed it was on "on wrist" (which is the default setup), so I switched it to "on clip." Now my walks aren't showing up at all on my exercise tab.

Has anyone else had this issue? If I have it as "on wrist" when I'm wearing on the clip, does that mess up tracking accuracy?

I hope you're doing well, @outatime!

I appreciate the information detailed in your post. When your Inspire is setup to "On clip" mode, some features like sleep and auto-exercise recognition are disabled. You can keep the Inspire setup to "On wrist" mode, but your exercise data might not be accurate.

Thanks for stopping by, see you around.

Thanks Braulio - why on earth is this disabled, though? Without the HR function, how is it supposed to track a bike ride when your wrist is stationary? This all seems like very dumb logic on Fitbit's part and the Inspire's functionality is reduced to the equivalent of a $5 pedometer.

Aren't the devices supposed to get *better* with new versions? 😬

This also should be on the list of troubleshooting steps since my former Inspire was set to Clip, and the help desk didn't mention that as a reason as to why exercise tracking wasn't working.
