Inspire HR: Step accuracy

Hello,

I am using my Inspire HR only a few days, but find that the step count is way off. Only today I put the Inspire to charge and already the count show 1.662 steps. (1.32KM) We do not have a small house, but to walk that many steps will not happen. This was my confirmation of suspecting the same during the past few days. Since I used the Inspire, it gives me consistent way more steps, and distance, than I actually did. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks.

My issue is, I walked 3 blocks in the morning, maybe a half mile at the most optimistic all day at work, and it registered 6 miles.  :I. And I do not flail my arms around in conversation enough to break into mileage.  It even registers steps and hundreds of calories burned when I have taken it off and put it on a counter.  Am about to return this and spend a little more for a Gear (unless I google similar issues with it).

As of today I will no longer respond to any messages to me because it seems any controversy against Fitbit causes me to receive a “ your message was undeliverable due to???. Second time my message wasn’t reaching the destination!
Sorry everyone

I’m frustratingly having the same issue of over counting, I did 300 steps in a seated conversation with a marketing agency. I’m really disappointed because I upgraded from my old Fitbit to get additional features but frankly the 30% inaccuracy makes my upgrade seem like a downgrade. It’s accurate when I’m exercising but wildly out when driving, sleeping and talking. Please get a fix sorted - I feel very let-down by a brand I trusted.

I am confused, who is not responding?
For clarification, hopefully the moderators are reading. I have Inspire,
not Inspire HR. My difficulty is the distance. I walk more than one hour
and it reads .27 miles. Yesterday I played raquetball 50 minutes, and walk
90 minutes and the reading was .38 miles. This was not happening with my
two Fitbit ( flex) I had before. Contacted support, restarted the device,
used it on my left arm and no changed today. I use the device in my left
ankle and reads the same amount of steps or a bit more. But distance
reading is a joke. This is not acceptable for a device that costs 60+
dollars.

I am planning to return mine as well as my wife's device. I am surprised the competition (samsung/Gramin) have not got whiff of this problem yet.

Same here as far as returning.  Today in our truck, it shows I walked an extra 3572 steps while driving to the store.

I had my Inspire HR yesterday and noticed this problem today having clocked up 2k steps from sitting down in presentations for 5 hours (not typing or writing etc)... After spending an hour or so on these forums I got cold feet so poke to a FitBit operator who said it is a known problem and they are working to fix it asap through a software update... I said I'll hold off from sending mine back for the time being, I love the form factor of the Inspire as I wear a regular watch daily.... shame about these problems though.

They have been saying that since early February. Lots of talk, no action whatsoever.

That a good news about a coming upgrade. Fitbit team reading these messages: can u confirm? I'm about ready to return mine. It's just too inaccurate.

I have given up and am just wearing it as a watch and heart monitor.  If I need an ego boost, I look at the 3.4 miles I have "walked" while mostly watching tv. And apparently I live 3/4 of the day in the Fat Burn Zone.

I am finding mine is varying from my BellaBeat in the other direction from those mentioned here. The first few days, my BellaBeat was a few hundred ahead of Inspire HR which I found to be negligible.  Yesterday BellaBeat registered 1700 MORE steps than Inspire HR.  I am going to do some accuracy tests when I have a chance and actually physically count my steps to compare.  The variations are annoying and it gets tiring trying to figure out which is accurate. I don't want to wear two trackers, I'm only wearing my BellaBeat to compare but my plan was to go back to FitBit b/c they have much better apps and tools and the on screen display that BellaBeat cannot compete with.  I will report back once I've had a chance to do some formal testing and comparisons.

Until the issue is solved (whenever that be) I am using it in conjunction with my Pacer app on my phone, which is accurate to just a few steps per thousand (I’ve tested several times in the past). I find the heart monitor quite accurate, the specific work out time is useful and it’s handy if I go out without my phone (as long as I remember to multiply the steps by 80% to get a reasonably accurate reading to manually put in my Pacer). My REAL steps are usually about 80% (4/5ths) of the Fitbit total so although it is inaccurate it IS reasonably consistent - as long as you don’t rely on it. The calorie counter and mileage (without GPS) are way off the scale and not to be believed but my Pacer does all that brilliantly.
I hope I don’t regret keeping it and this error is fixed because it does stuff my Pacer doesn’t do and I quite like the thing (or will when it works right).

I tested it by standing in the kitchen and just moving my arm a little bit and it literally counts every time I move my arm as a step. I too have noticed that since I’ve got this device my steps are extremely high even doubled. I find this unacceptable because my flex and flex two did not behave this way.  And honestly what is the point of going in and subtracting steps. That negates the whole point of the device, how would I even know how many steps to subtract?

Do you have it in Octopus mode? That seems to be the factory setting 😂

While taking your 12 steps, did you by chance flap your arms like a startled wounded bird?  Or see a neighbor outside your window and then waved like a maniacal goob in an excessive show of friendliness? The third scenario involves nose picking, but that would only qualify if the issue was far back there and quite annoying.
