Inspire HR adding thousands of steps while I'm perfectly still

I'm not sure why this started, but about a month or so ago I noticed my Fitbit would give me my notification for "hitting my daily goal" within less than an hour of me being awake, and not moving I might add, just laying in bed. For example, today it said I did over 8,000 steps in 15 minutes while drinking my coffee and watching TV. It's on my non-dominant hand, so I know it's not from that movement. It's happened several times, and one said I got over 20,000 steps in 15 minutes. It messes up my goals and makes me lose motivation for that day since I know it's not accurate and there's no way to manually change it. I've had it almost a year with no problems until about 2 months ago.

@AngelaMoody04 It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community!

Let me help you with your Inspire HR counting steps when you aren't moving. This is odd and thank you for sharing an example of when and where this has happened. Try restarting your tracker by following these instructions and see how it behaves.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi,

Thank you for responding. I forgot to mention I did restart it within the last few days, I can't remember if it was before or after this most recent adding steps, I'm pretty positive it was after this last time. It hasn't added anything crazy today but it doesn't happen everyday, ya know?

Hi,

So my Fitbit did it again. I haven't worn it since last night, it was on my counter until 12:15pm when I put it on, and it said I had 17,000 steps by 8am. I restarted it a few days ago, so I'm not sure what to do. I'm not sure if it's the unit or what.

I'm having this same issue. I check in when I wake up and the other day I woke up to it having 111,000 steps when I woke up. I tried restarting it, clearing my user data, and re-synching it and I'm still waking up to it occasionally having 40,000 steps or more. Im not sure what else to do. I just bought my inspire hr in March of 2020.
