Never got a final answer so I'm posting again. Why is the sleep icon grey out on my Fitbit? I've re-started it twice but it's still greyed out. Has been for quite a while. I did a software update a few weeks ago.

Thank you for restarting your device to help solve the issue. You could try clearing your data by following these instructions. Note that you will need to set it up again.

Can't do the factory reset as per instructions. I don't get the ALT display. Tried 3 times.
