Missing altimeter/floor count

Many of us posted a need to have floor counting as part of the next Alta version because we didn't want the bulky Charge. So disappointed to see a new model replace the Alta without that feature. Fitbit was able to fit altimeter in the One so should be able to fit it into the new Inspire. Looks lovely but will not buy, would not have gotten Alta if it was clear it was a step back from my One instead of step forward. Everyone beware as your feedback seems to fall on deaf ears at Fitbit.

We designed Inspire/Inspire HR for consumers who want an approachable and affordable tool with baseline health and fitness features that inspire them to improve their health and reach their goals. Similar to Alta & Alta HR, Inspire & Inspire HR do not track floors climbed. For customers interested in tracking floors climbed, this feature can be found on Charge 3, Versa, or Ionic.

@JenB04 Sorry to hear you're disappointed.  The altimeter does indeed add bulk to the device, which is likely why it was left out, so that the Inspire devices could remain slim and lightweight.  It also adds to the price.

In my experience with the Versa, Ionic, and Charge 3, floor counts aren't very accurate.  Things like wind and air pressure can wildly effect the floor counts as well.  I get 11 floors just by showering with my Fitbit.  It's a wasted metric, in my opinion.

I agree with @Heather-S  one of the biggest contentions, and it's data is never used for any calculation b is the Altimeter. I'm happy that it has been removed, besides all it did was display a floor count. This was often wrong, based on atmospheric conditions.

@JenB04 Fully agree with you. It is pure a Marketing/Product line differentiation approach (technically speaking was feasible, but they preffered to keep that feature out of Inspire as HW differentiatior with Charge 3). Maybe they keep it in the pipeline for next 'Inspire HR 2' ... (if they achieve to get enough volumes from Inspire HR 1,... we'll see what happens in this tough market  )

Just wondering will Inspire HR be able to provide elevation gain without an altimeter when using the connected GPS?

@Agnes-HC Welcome to the Fitbit forums! 

That is a great question. Since Inspire and Inspire HR do not have an altimeter, floor tracking will not be a feature that is available for these devices. 

However, after you complete a GPS activity and sync your device, the detailed exercise history in the Fitbit app will show elevation during your run or hike.  You can log in to your account on fitbit.com or click Log > Activities and expand any workout to see more details.

@MattFitbit  when you say a GPS activity, are you referring to using the Fitbit app, or is the Inspire able to use connected GPS as @Agnes-HC  inquired about?

@Rich_Laue Great question. Inspire HR does have Connected GPS as a feature. Though it is worth noting that the base Inspire model does not have this feature.

Honestly, why can there not be an alternative available comparable to the Fitbit One?  It was slim, concealable and it counted floors quite accurately.  It was affordable when it was released. No one has ever given a complete answer to why they are no longer available.

My latest used One died.  When I call Fitbit I get the same tired responses.  The Zip is the only clip tracker.  Any of the others that could possible be worn not on the wrist don't track floors.  If you want a tracker that counts floors you have to wear a huge device on your wrist.

The One was perfect for many customers.  Really, WHY did they do away with it?

There is @KC777 , it is called the Inspire. For slightly more than half the price of the Fitbit One, we have a convertible tracker that can be worn on the wrist or as a clip on units on the belt.

@KC777 I'm fully agree with you. Alta HR was the latest slim tracker, since then they only growed and growed in width. I also want a tracker that goes completely unnoticed and that I forget that I carry it. That must be its main function. Change 3 and Inspire HR are in between, having the worse of both sides: too big to be the best unnoticed high-end trackers, and too small to be decent smartwatches, that after all is what they aspire to be. Pretty dissapointing with Inspire (HR); Alta HR product replacement.

@Rich_Laue The Inspire on the Clip is similar to the One, but the One counted floors and the Inspire doesn't and I think that's the point of this thread.

I'm happy that the Inspire does not count floors, unless the user lives in the ideal climate floors counting will be problematic. Fitbit has never done anything Hing with the floor could not but to display it's dark a to the user. For me I've been wanting to see a more convenient, than the Zip, for a long time.

@Torakaru  both the Inspire and Versa Light are so light that I don't even know that they are on the arm . 

The Versa Light, like the Versa to an non Apple person looks to much like an AW, to me this is a drawback.

For looks and general functionality and light weightness I find the Charge 3 with a metal band perfect. It has class, simple screen easy to read in the sunlight, but still counts those useless floors. Between these three I'm pressed to decide which is my favorite, but favoring the very light and classy looking Charge 3.

However the Ionic is the one I love for hiking.

I thought the Inspire would be just like The One, I did not know it doesn't track floors. Why is the option visible on the app if it isn't functional for the Fitbit I have? It also doesn't track my sleep,  and I was told yesterday you would have to wear the wristband for that feature. Thecrep did not tell me the floors couldn't be tracked either. I am very disappointed. Please create an update for Inspire to have this functionality with the clip. Not everyone wants to wear something on their wrist everyday and while sleeping

I just got my inspire, if I knew it didn't track floor count I would have never purchased it. Very sad about this, that was a feature I wanted.

@Johanna247  do you have more than one Fitbit connected to your account? If you still have a tracker that has floor counting you will still have floors displayed. However if you only have an inspire floors should have been removed.

As for sleep tracking, like yes the Fitbit One has the sleep band to be worn while monitoring sleep. The One has the manual Sleep start but the Inspire has auto detect for sleep. You could try the manual Sleep option found on the Fitbit app.

I figured it out, the floor icon is gone, thanks. Still missing my one, but I guess I can live with the floors being gone. Can't figure out for the life of me why they discontinued it

To keep the cost lower and the tracker thin is what I’ve seen said.
