Missing altimeter/floor count

Many of us posted a need to have floor counting as part of the next Alta version because we didn't want the bulky Charge. So disappointed to see a new model replace the Alta without that feature. Fitbit was able to fit altimeter in the One so should be able to fit it into the new Inspire. Looks lovely but will not buy, would not have gotten Alta if it was clear it was a step back from my One instead of step forward. Everyone beware as your feedback seems to fall on deaf ears at Fitbit.

I was interested in a small exercise tracker to replace my Fitbit One (which I had for five years). I was really happy with the One and am replacing it only because it died after being put in the washing machine.

There’s no reason that the Inspire trackers can’t have this information included— it “fit” on the tiny One! I climb lots of stairs during the course of a normal day and often walk in hilly areas. I don’t want to wear a big clunky gadget on my wrist to get this information.

You say this is for people who want “an approachable and affordable tool with baseline health and fitness features”, for me this includes elevation.

I’d rather have this information than all of text, phone & email notifications, which are unnecessary, especially if I have to TAKE MY PHONE with me to get GPS info or want to listen to audiobooks. I am researching other brands.

I've been a fitbit user & customer since 2011, loved the One and still have a functioning model. Fitbit's decision to discontinue it, stop supporting it via an IOS app and then bring out a new, more expensive & inferior model that does not even include an altimeter in the Inspire range, means I'm buying an alternative brand.

I agree! I've been a fitbit user & customer since 2011, loved the One and still have a functioning model. Like many people - I can't wear a wrist model at work, I just want a clip on model with decent functionality. Bewildering fitbit has a almost a dozen models...but none that meet that brief. Fitbit's decision to discontinue the One, stop supporting it via an IOS app and then bring out a new, more expensive & inferior model that does not even include an altimeter in the Inspire range, means I'm buying an alternative brand.

I just checked, the Fitbit app still allows the user to setup a One song with other discontinued models. The only models not supported that where ever supported is the Force that was recalled for its high nickel content.

As for price, the inspire is cheaper then the one ever sold for, adding a clip brings the cost up to the price the One sold for. On Amazon their are already several accessories for the inspire. A clip may be purchased do 9USD which brings the cost of a clip model to 10USD cheaper then the One.

As for the stair count? Outside of it being a feel good option and a source of major contention, I'm not sure what the advantage is? Could I be enlightened? Warning this is a hook and bait

I don’t want the altimeter on those other models, I wanted it on the Inspire that I just bought and surprisingly learned after the fact that floor counter not included.  I am very frustrated with fit bit, I liked the ONE, had everything I needed and easy to conceal (and keep clean) since in the dental field and plenty of blood and aerosols flying around. I don’t want to look elsewhere, but I will. So sad!

I liked it it and that’s not the only problem with the Inspire

There seems to be quite an unpleasant trend for people to use this type of forum to make themselves feel superior, by making down putting comments in response to perfectly straightforward comments or queries. Also in the assumptions that (a) everyone is a dedicated keep-fit addict in their prime  (b) everyone manages to find time and interest to keep up-to-date with the latest technological buzz-words and procedures and (c) everyone has unlimited income, allowing them to make a purchase of (say) £70 - £100, then realise that it doesn't include what they thought it did, so dump it, in favour a new item. I'm sure that there will be a number of folk who fit these criteria - unfortunately, I'm not one of them!

I'm 73 years old, and now learning to cope with both lung and heart disease, the result of a childhood illness. I've never smoked, have kept very fit in adulthood, climbed umpteen mountains at home and abroad - so please don't be unkind on that score, Rich_Laue!  Can walk fairly well on the level, but have more of a problem with slopes, stairs, etc., and consultant wanted me to monitor this, which was one of the reasons for buying the Fitbit, which I really can't afford to replace.

There must be many others who buy these gadgets for similar reasons so -  please, guys! -  don't  be so arrogant and unpleasant, even if you do want to champion your own favourite toy!

Hi! If I understand your previous answer regarding elevation on my Inspire correctly, my watch does not track elevation gain at all?  I kind of need that option, training for ultramarathons and all.  The previous heart rate monitor I had tracked elevation gain, and it was so cheap, I didn't think for a second that this Fitbit wouldn't track it...  Frowning emoji

I'm sorry to here that @Breaker1. if you purchased from the Fitbit store you have 45 days to make a decision to return.

Now if you go to https://www.fitbit.com/compare it is easy to do a little research.

Part of the reason for the inspire to be so cheap and small is because their isn't a barometer in it.

Best Answer

Do you mean it doesn't have an altimeter?  The One was cheap (sold by Fitbit) and small.

Everyone is different.  Some look for certain functions other don't.  Some people live and workout in geographical terrains that others are unaccustomed to.

If you look at previous posts on this subject you will get your answer to why some people want the features of the One and are disappointed with the Inspire.

What I want is the One. It has all the features I want, and “cheap” is not what I’m looking for. I do not wear a tracker on my wrist. I want the clip, and the features I had with my One, before it died.

@KC777. that is what the subject of this thread is about. The inspire and inspire HR does not have an altimeter. Did you follow the link in my last post or go to the info page in the Store where their will be no mention of stairs.

As for the One, it is almost twice as big and more expensive and older technology.

Thanks for your swift reply.  Unfortunately, we are 1 zillion miles away from where I bought my fitbit, and the next time I'll be back home will be in October (way past 45 day limit).  It's just very disappointing because we asked the salesperson if it measured elevation gain and he said yes.  Thanks again for your reply.

The 45 day return policy is only good if purchased through fitbit.com.

The place you bought it from will have their own return policy. I'm not sure if you would be able to prove that the tracker was misrepresented, but the box says nothing about floors.

The Inspire HR is one of the best looking trackers Fitbit has to offer in my opinion and they have made a big mistake with not adding a floor counter. Why have this community forum set up if you won’t take our suggestions into consideration?

Best Answer

Actually @raeofmoonshine the Fitbit community is set up for your fellow Fitbit users to help each other out.

The Feature Suggestion board is setup for Fitbit users to make their thoughts known to the developers.

I'm any case the Inspire line is released and it is to late to redesign, reshape, to make room for the altimeter. At best we may hope that the next budget tracker includes an altimeter.

I found this suggestion but notice that only 22 users are interested and of these three pages of 60 posts we don't even have a dozen users asking. Yes it is not planned for the Inspire simply because it is to late to go back to the design board.
