According to my mom, her Fitbit Inspire is not starting over on the step count every day. Instead it’s just a running total. What needs to be done to fix that?

Let me help you with your mother's step count not resetting. This is odd but this may happen when there is a change in timezone (due to travel or DST changes). You can restart your device as this will help it reset the following midnight but it won’t remove the steps from the affected date.
