I have a Chromebook and I can't get my Fitbit to sync with my laptop. Is there a reason why?

That's correct, Chrome being a web based OS does not support a connection to Bluetooth devices.
There is nothing Fitbit can about this until changes are made in the Chrome OS
If you sync through a different device, on a web browser on chrome, log into your Fitbit account to see your steps.
