Hi everyone
i am looking to buy a Fitbit inspire HR, but after bad experiences with 2 other brands of tracker I’d like to check something before I buy.
I am mainly interested in calories burned, does the Inspire calculate this using heart rate only? Or is it including other factors such as exercise type, or steps taken?
Secondly I use an elliptical trainer every day for 30 minutes. On the other brands I tried I had problems as the steps taken increased during the workout (Obviously due to arm movements) and when the app I use to track my food etc imported the data it gave me calorie count for the workout but also added a calorie count for the steps I had taken. So I ended up with more calories burned than actually happened. I know that’s probably down to the food app but wondered if anyone has had similar issues with their food apps?
thanks

@Beanikki Welcome to the Community. Sorry for the delay in my reply.
Let me help you with your Inspire HR inquiries. I will number my responses to make sure I address all the ones you posted.
1.- For caloric burn calculation your Fitbit will use your personal information (age, weight, height, etc.) to calculate your BMR or the calories your body use just for functioning. Additionally steps, heart rate and activity type are used for this as you can read here.
2.- If your tracker detects your steps while doing an activity the both will be tracked but for this time period if an activity is detected then it will overwrite any other data and use the systems calculation to give a better caloric burn calculation. You can read more about this in this help article. The third party app may see this differently but it is up to them how to interpret Fitbit's data.
Finally most sellers including Fitbit store have a timeframe where you can use the device and decide to keep it or not. In Fitbit's case it is a 45 days period and you can read more about it here.
Let me know how it goes.
