@Wesmo2509 It's these particular earbuds... It's a known issue. The volume is stuck at the last volume setting on your phone before you pair the AirPods. Can you still control the vol from the pods themselves?

Hey @Wesmo2509, welcome aboard! Oh! Yes, as my friend @Marrrmaduke said, this is an expected behavior with the AirPods and to be honest with you, I have no information about when this is gonna be resolved. In the meantime, I suggest you to be patient while our team is working on it.
Let me know if you have further questions or comments!

Any idea about when this is likely to be fixed?

can you give an expected date that this problem is going to be fixed on because I spent a lot of money on the airpods and the fitbit and I am confused as to why this doesn't work.

I don't know how you call this a solution. This is a pound sand answer. Or maybe... a return your $210 versa because it does not do the one thing you paid an extra $150 to get!
Fitbit instructions are ridiculously poor. How to connect my Aria... Fitbit instructions: "Connect your Aria"
I keep thinking there is a process or procedure that must be known by a software person somewhere at fitbit but never shared with the users because that would be admitting that the process was complicated. I've actually gotten the volume buttons to work 1 time. So there must be a process that works..... Please tell us!

I have was having the same issue as i just got the versa 3 days ago and i was very frustrated and annoyed but i stumbled upon a hopeful solution.
So what you have to do is click the three dots on the bottom left corner and click the input as ur phone and then change it back your watch and then pair to ur airpods in outpost section. This fixed it for me hopefully it will for you as well.

I followed your exact instructions and it WORKED. Then, about 5 seconds later it went back to being loud. Tried it several times with the same results - keeps going back up in volume. Really odd, but it almost gives me hope that there is an easier fix.
Seriously Fitbit - I love your products...own 5 watches...and before buying the Versa 2, I want to ensure the watch is user friendly with my AirPods.
Anyone else have updates/solutions?

Mine finally worked! I followed recommendations of turning down volume while connected to iPhone. Then disconnected from iPhone and connected to Versa. Volume was not blasting like in the past, and now the volume buttons and volume + - actually work on the Versa! I found I have to tap them a few times to work, but IT WORKED! I even reconnected iPhone to Airpods and iPad to Airpods then back to Versa. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT ACTUALLY WORKS! (I just updated the Versa today as well- there must have been a fix!)

The same thing is happening to me. I can control volume immediately after I pair bu in 10 seconds it goes back up. This is beyond frustrating and I’m actually really pissed about this!

Ok so after a temper tantrum and a mental breakdown I fixed mine. Fitbit Versa 2 with AirPods pro.
ON WATCH:
SETTINGS
SCROLL DOWN TO “BLUETOOTH”
Select Audio Device (your AirPods should be highlighted)
REMOVE (Trash can)
After you’ve completely removed the AirPods from your watch. Re pair them like you did when you first got Them.
(turn off Bluetooth on phone)
ON WATCH:
SETTINGS
BLUETOOTH
+AUDIO DEVICE
”searching”
FLIP OPEN AIRPODS CASE AND PRESS PAIRING ON BACK OF CASE
Tge AirPods should appear on the watch. Select it then go back to your music and play. The +- buttons worked perfectly with no interruption. Cross fingers it stays this way.
