Very scared to put it near water as website says water resistant people say they’ve swam with it just fine others say the watch has stopped working/malfunctioned after being in water

Hi there, @Phoebefitness. Welcome to the forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post.

As @NellyG has mentioned, most Fitbit devices are water-resistant to 50 meters. They're designed to be swimproof and stand up to even the sweatiest of workouts.

Keep in mind that not all of our accessory bands should get wet, like those made of leather, metal, and woven materials. For more information about wearing your Fitbit device, see our Wear and Care page.

Water resistance may diminish over time and can be negatively impacted by any of the following:

  • Dropping the device.
  • Exposing the device to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, perfume, insect repellent, lotions, or sunscreen.
  • Exposing the device to high-velocity water (for example, during water sports).

If your device gets wet, it’s important to take it off and dry it well before putting it back on. If your device comes into contact with any liquid other than fresh
water, you should clean it with fresh water and a soap-free cleanser (like Cetaphil) and dry it with a lint free-cloth.

Hi @Phoebefitness . Water resistant means you can swim with it. Yes water seals do occasionally fail, but not very often. I have swum with all my water resistant fitbits and have never had a problem. Go ahead and enjoy your swim!

It also may depend on the type of water you're using. If it's salt water, for example, you may destroy the device. Salt is very corrosive, which could damage the watch. The same goes for soap, shampoo, or other corrosive chemicals, as @MarreFitbit mentioned.

In fresh water, you should be fine, provided you stay within the 50M. limit. I don't think that will be too much of an issue, since that figures out to over 150 feet of water, which is way over most people's heads!
