Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.
WHAT'S CHANGED?
Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.
IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?
This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:
Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

After trying every option going, I spent 2 hours on chat with a very patient and helpful support technician and finally I have my update. My Versa was being very stubborn and was having none of it but now it's up and running I need to get my running shoes on. I had to do a complete factory reset too to solve the problem, however it took a few goes for it to finally give in. Happy 🙂

"The only issue left now seems to be that the watchface keeps reverting to the default colors, while in the app settings the custom colors are still selected."
This was the way it was at the old firmware too, at least for me.

Having severe issues with the install! Plus my versa has started using a lot of battery life can barely get 3 days now as opposed to 5-6 originally. What’s going on?

I had the 2.2 download available on my ionic on 10/5. Tried 3 times to complete the download and install over wifi. The actual download completed but the install would not complete. After 3 hours of the install clock, I disconnected and rebooted my ionic. There is a bug with the install of Fitbit OS 2.2. Looking forward to a fix.

Still, how do you imagine the exact help, possible bug fixes, if you do not write down anything about the conditions? How, under what circumstances did the error occur? That way, with so little information ridiculous. I already wrote about it. These are essential for troubleshooting and to know how likely this phenomenon is to recur to me or others. For example:
1. Hardware name: Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920F)
2. Operating System: Android 7.0
3. Fitbit app: October 5, 2018
4. How did the error occur? You just wrote that down, approximately...
Without these, the description of errors and problems is worth nothing!
Moderators do not say anything. Why?
Does anyone here know something about the information technology? I suspect that nothing ... It's very sad ...
I'm sorry for the strong sound, but I had to write down if we were taking the forum seriously and ourselves.

Most people are users and they does not care what version app they use, what android or os they phone had. Most people have problem with update and so they come here and let it know.
So after all. Fitbit Versa and Ionic have sell over many so here is little users ho had problems with update. It means most people had ok update or they just get error but does not run here to say thing is bad.
I own oneplus 6 with Pie and update did also fail. Fitbit support says that it is not tested phone so it should not work officially.

In a stable computer system (comprising of hardware and software), it is reasonable to assume that unwanted conditions arise in a reproducible way. However, the operating system that has been in use in Versa and Ionic Fitbit models has not been stable since their launch, from what I can see on these forums. Even to assume that going through an update procedure to replace the O/S will go equally as well across all devices, cannot be made. Yet, only a successful updating of the O/S is going to bring about an end to the spurious errors which many have experienced, and that the moderators here are powerless to help you with, save for doing a reset, power down cycle or factory reset, which at best may give you breathing space until the next spate of failures occur. They also seem to be truly excellent at smiling while delivering what they know full well is yet another exercise in futility for all involved.
I'd also like to comment that I find it quite unusual that the developers have not included a factory reset or even a power down cycle on conclusion of the O/S update in their "how to update" document.
To admit that a released product is unstable is extremely embarrassing for any company. Even if your product has many thousands of bugs, that's better than having a system that experiences random glitches. What is essentially means is that the developers don't have effective control of the execution of the software. When developers are not up to the task for any reason, the first thing that needs to happen is that an effective team are put in control. "Team" includes those that are affecting the performance of the software engineers, not just the software engineers themselves. With an effective team in place that ensures stability in any released product, it's a good idea to include all pertinent details in any error report, as only then can causal connections between conditions and erroneous outcomes be confidently made.
I can only give generic suggestions here as I don't own a Versa or Ionic (only Surge and Charge 2). If it were me, I'd be doing a five minute power down before each attempt of the firmware update, as well as after. And then confirm that the firmware version number is as expected. If that didn't work, I'd also include factory resets. Doing what is required to reduce the time for the update helps in more ways than just your patience. It means less time for random errors to occur, possibly corrupting the incoming firmware. There can be no fixing of the many issues on Versa/Ionic except with a firmware update that not only is stable in its performance as a fitness tracker / smartwatch, but it also can be absolutely relied on to update to future firmware versions.
I haven't yet heard from those that have already updated, that the random glitches in previous firmware are happening again. So if it were me I'd be putting in considerable effort to get the update done, including a short distance between wifi router and devices accessing it, and minimising the fitbits competition to wifi. For now forget about whether you need the added features of the firmware update. You need a stable system first and foremost.
My applicable background:
Wrote a testing system that teased out instabilities in software systems at a low level, and used it on a couple of thousand apps. The first thing I used it on was itself, and then my other software development tools. Ignorance is bliss right? lol

"Most people are users and they does not care what version app they use, what android or os they phone had. Most people have problem with update and so they come here and let it know."
That's the problem. How can you expect actual, concrete help? How to fix Firmware exactly? So certainly not.
Of course, firmware is also a big problem. The very unstable. It is very unsteady to install.

Hi,
I was having issues with connectivity so I factory reset my versa. When I went in to the app, I had the update tracker button. Now it is gone and I haven’t updated to the new os yet. Will the button come back at some point?

For some of the very same reasons stated about rolling out firmware in phases... Fitbit you need to recognize and acknowledge what is the real underlying problem with the continuing syncing issues.
Firstly, the issues have NOT been resolved! If anything, they are getting worse.
And... closing threads... or deleting posts the mods don't like to see... will not solve the problem. If Fitibit cannot recognize and acknowledge your problems, then we shall just take this discussion to Reddit where you do not have the ability to censor us.
The problem is this -> It should not be a default that syncing is always to the servers. Syncing should only be with the local user's phone, with an option to sync to the servers at the user's discretion.
Just think about it -> it is server overload (similar to denial of service attacks by hackers) that is the root cause of syncing instability. There is simply no way that Fitbit servers can keep up with Fitbit trackers syncing in real time from all over the world. And because of the instability issues, we are all swiping down trying to sync even more often. This is causing even more server side instability.
Fix the known issues... and quit sweeping them under the carpet.
Syncing is STILL an issue... months after Versa release...

Been trying to update firmware for 3 days now. Contacted support on twitter, have tried everything they suggested. Done all the reboots, tried wifi and bluetooth updates but ended in a loop of failure every time. Now been unable to use it for 3 days. Its only 53 days old, this isnt good enough. Now twitter support have gone quiet on me for the past 6 hours. Arghhh! Help!

@JulieG1109 Sorry to hear you've had trouble updating your Versa. As a last resort, you can give the watch a factory reset and set it up to your Fitbit account again. Hope this helps! If not, let me know so I can connect you with our Customer Support team.
For anyone else having trouble updating to the newest firmware, please give the watch a restart and also make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app installed on your phone. For more tips, check out this article: Why can't I update my Fitbit device?
As most firmware updates, they will take some time to load which is why I suggest connecting to Wifi on the watch to complete a faster download. Otherwise, the update over Bluetooth may take a little longer so make sure either way you have the watch connected to the charging cable to ensure it will have enough battery.
For those still waiting for the update, thanks for your patience! We will continue rolling out this firmware this week and I'll keep you all informed in this thread. Thank you!

I put mine on top of the Router (couldn't get closer), it still would not connect to wifi.
I think its time to return the Versa and get an Apple Watch

I got the Series 4 when it came out and couldn't be happier. Checked in one more time with Fitbit to see if a firmware upgrade would occur to compete. Thought I'd upload it prior to selling on Craigslist. (and to see if the Charge 3 was having the same issues -- surprise it is!).
