Fitbit Update: 9/16

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.1, available for Versa and Versa Lite

(Firmware Version: 68.9.12).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

This release includes bug fixes and improvements.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa can be found here

To update Versa Lite Edition, leave on all-day sync and let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone. When the update is ready, you’ll see a notification in the Fitbit app.

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa or Versa Lite, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Same thing here. Have spent hours trying to get it back to notifications! WTHECK fitbit???

Yeah, the update stinks.  I do like the additional options in "quick settings" but everything else is broken.

- The battery drains twice as fast

- Notifications take longer to appear (sometimes in a minute or two vs. a couple seconds previously)

- Replies through the Versa don't work any more

- GPS tracking is broken again (just says "connecting...")

I think I've had enough.  I don't rely on this thing as much as I used to for fitness/eating goals and I think a different smartwatch will be a better approach next time, because I'm tired of Fitbit's software folks not seeming to give a rodent's posterior about fixing problems or incorporating user feedback. I'll just wait till this thing dies and move on.

Since this update I have not been able to sync my Versa via the phone app at all. I have never had an issue with syncing before and I have tried all the trouble shooting tips to no avail. What gives? I don't have a new phone and have made no changes except this update and immediately upon update, the app cannot find my Versa. At all. I have to update via my laptop now and I don't get any notifications now. Very disappointed.

I had a similar problem before the update. I had synced my Versa to my
laptop and found out that once you do that, it always synced to the laptop
even if the phone was available. I would force a Versa reboot and it would
sync to the phone only once and than go back to the laptop.I had to remove
Versa from the laptop Bluetooth and not allow it to sync. This may not be
your problem, but make sure your laptop is not syncing before messing with
the phone.

Same here. My Versa has worked great for over a year now, but this latest update sucks. It's unbelievable that they STILL haven't done a fix for it. Text notifications was one of my favorite features and now they don't work. If I could afford it, I'd buy a different watch, but they're too expensive to just cavalierly throw one away and buy another.

Thanks but I dont think its my laptop as I only started using my laptop after this last update. I never used anything except my phone prior to this update, but now the phone app will not connect to my Versa. It always says it cant find it, but my laptop works so I use it for now.  I never had any issues with syncing or anything. I saw another thread that said they released a list of phones that are supported with this update and mine is now not on this list. I find it very frustrating as the app always worked before this update so now it looks like I'm expected to get another phone in order to use the fitbit app. Very annoying and I definitely wont be doing that...guess I'll just wait until I get a new phone some day to see if I can use their app again.  Ridiculous.

I did everything most others tried, reinstalling the app, removing and readding Versa to Bluetooth, rebooting everything and also cleared the Fitbit app cache as some suggested.  Tonight I finally got the notifications working.  But Music Control still will not stay connected.  I have put the Versa in pair to get it to connect to the phone, but after a few minutes, it goes to Off and disconnects. If I turn Restore Music Controls to On, it still will not connect.  Only connects in pair mode.

But, what this I did to finally fix my notifications issue.  (make sure you sync before you do this)

I first remove Versa and Versa Classic from Bluetooth on the phone.  Then I went into the Fitbit app and removed my Versa. I rebooted my phone.  Then I connected the Versa to the Bluetooth again.  I when into the Fitfit app to set up a Device and added my Versa back.  After I got it set back up, I when to another device and sent myself some test Texts, Emails, and a call, and I did get notified on my Versa.

Now If I only could get the Music Control to stay connected.  I had no problem with it until the Firmware update. 😞

What is the timeline for the rollout of the update?

My Versa can’t receive SMS, though it syncs otherwise and I get other notifications from Apps, calendar, etc... I am hoping the update will address this ongoing issue.

I haven't seen any responses from Fitbit as to what they're doing about it or when a fix is expected.

Just the opposite for me. I have a Pixel 3a and along with the update, nothing syncs. Complete dead in the water.

If your issue is the missing notifications, i wonder if this fix they sent out will work? https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/Stopped-seeing-notifications-after-updating-to-iOS-13/td-p/3...

I have not updated to the new firmware (thank goodness) as I am waiting to see when these issues stop. Good luck!

The past two weeks have been the worst experience I have EVER had with Fitbit.  So much so I'm thinking about dumping them.  Won't sync to my phone, battery is glitchy, time is off and I was late to work because I trusted the Fitbit alarms.  Contacted support yesterday, they said Oh we released an update you have to update the new version.  Same issue so I reset my Fitbit, Uninstalled and Reinstalled the app.  Same crap as before.  So exhausting!!!

I received my versa 2 today. When I went into the app it asked me a couple of questions and then it’s in the waiting mode. It’s like in the center it has a icon in the middle that looks like it is waiting. It Hasn’t done anything in three hours.

So, after almost two weeks of frustration, I decided to call Customer Support. The nice woman took my info and asked what kind of phone I had - told her it was a Moto G7. She looks up a few things and then proceeds to tell me that my phone isn't on the list of tested devices that are actually compatible with the Versa, so it's going to have glitches and won't work well. I nearly lost it - I got the Versa as a gift in May, it worked FINE through mid-September. I got all notifications, everything synced perfectly. Then it stopped working, then the OS roll-out hit, and starting working intermittently. She tells me that the fact that it worked fine between May and September is sheer luck because the app was never tested on the Moto G series. Now I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back so I can get a refund... what a joke.

I'm just curious how many of you that encountered problems after the last firmware update were using a 3rd party clock face?  I was using one that I had put on my Versa in early August.  The firmware was applied to my device about 2 weeks ago and within 1.5 days my Versa went black and never came on again (couldn't be charged).  I had assumed it wasn't the 3rd party clock face and was even infuriated when they asked me about it.  However, I'm wondering if the developers of the 3rd party clock faces have time to test the clock face with the new firmware before the firmware is pushed out.  If not, then I could see why there might be an issue.  I finally received my replacement versa today (b/c I was still in warranty).  It took 2 weeks for it to come in (very frustrating to not have a watch for that long!)  Personally, I don't plan to use any 3rd party clock faces anymore as this is my 3rd replacement versa and the previous 2 had 3rd party clock faces when they ended up crashing and burning.  I wish good luck to all of you that are experiencing issues.  It was certainly a frustrating 2 weeks for me.  Hopefully this replacement will last longer than 8 months.

IMO, the answer from Customer Service is just hogwash. I've had two Motos over the past year and a half or so and the Versa has worked perfectly with both of them. It wasn't until the last couple of weeks that it quit giving text notifications. Fortunately the other features still work, but no matter what I do, I no longer get vibrations or texts on the Versa. Since this was one of my favorite features, I'm hugely disappointed not only to lose that feature but also by the indifference by Fitbit.

The problem isn't just with Versa. It's with all of the devices. It is
more than likely an app issue that they dont know how to fix.

Thanks, Jcagno (Recovery Runner). I'm wondering what watches people are buying instead of Fitbit.
