Inappropriate friend request

I've had a Fitbit for over 3 years and just got my first friend request from a shady person. I contacted Fitbit and they were not at all helpful. This is his/her profile; "want chat with a guy because I'm very lonely😔 Write me here please -xxx  I was told to block, which I will, but shouldn't Fitbit be blocking these people once they're made aware? And why is there no link to report suspicious activity. It's bad enough I have to deal with this crap on FB and constantly blocking scam phone numbers. Now Fitbit???

@peacelamb the best to thing to do is to report any suspicious friend request. To learn more about that check out this article

I did try to report it in a chat session. I was told to block the person. And I actually had another one the same day. I also would like to know how I'm getting these when everything on my account is set to private. I sent the chat person a link to the person that sent the request. I got the distinct feeling there was going to be nothing done. Very disappointed. I thought Fitbit was better than that.

p.s. And there is no way to block that I could find. The only thing I was able to do was deny the request. It may be time to take a closer look at privacy?

@peacelamb check out the link to the article from my previous post on how to report a community user or post, this is the best way to alert Fitbit.

i have had similar - 1 a week ago & 1 today. The first one had swearing in their invite - kids have fitbits - this needs sorting !

This has happened to me twice this week.  The first time, I took a screen shot, reported it (it was from a porn site) and the only response I got back was “we hope you are happy.”  🙄. More from the same porn site today.  Really?  Can’t you guys block the site since I gave you the photo and the link?  Yes, I changed my password.  Yes, I deleted the request.  But I am about to disable my account because of these issues.  You should do better protecting our privacy.

Had a 3rd one this.evening ! Mario F ( pic is man with a moustache ) no description - so nothing rude said this time ( no profile details either ) managed to find way to block & report . I think Fitbit data has been hacked & we r not being told . This could be a peado trying to contact kids for all we know.

I got the same message about a week ago.  I ignored it and have not heard back.

I'm a little miffed that Fitbit hasn't replied to this yet. And I've gotten 5 of them now. The alarming thing is, ALL of my settings are on private, so what else have these people accessed? Fitbit????? How about a reply. How do I know now that these people don't know my location? This is disturbing and requires addressing. NOW!

I AGREE 100%. I think Fitbit is being very irresponsible in protecting their users. Everything for me is set on private. I want an answer as to how these people are even seeing me. Shame on you Fitbit, for blowing this off.

FITBIT!!!!!  YOU NEED TO ADDRESS THIS NOW!!!!!!!!

I've only had the one who sent the same message to me.  I have a feeling it is a blanket send, especially since our names are obviously feminine.  I agree with your concern,  I would not respond.  I found out years ago that it was better to ignore spam mail.

I have learned fitbit is usually no.help. I was getting these A LOT. Go to your fitbit setting then notifications then scroll until you find friend requests and turn it off. Unless you have a specific  friends request that you WANT to accept, I suggest you turn it back on accept that particular friend request then turn it back off.  It is the only way I have found to get rid of the TRASH!  Good luck

My “friend request” was already set to off. They got my email from Fitbit. Fitbit owes us more than this.

I agree. Same here. This is a breach of security as far as I'm concerned. And they are doing nothing.
