Fitbit Update: 2/6

Fitbit OS 4.1.1 (Firmware Version: 35.70.7.21) for VERSA 2 smartwatches has been released to 100% of users. If you haven't yet, please make sure you update your watch to this new firmware.

If you recently purchased or set up your Versa 2, you might not see this firmware available to you yet. Continue syncing the watch and in a few days or less, you'll be prompted to update to this firmware.

Fitbit Update: 1/31

Hi, Versa 2 users!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1.1 (Firmware Version: 35.70.7.21) exclusively for Versa 2 Smartwatches.

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes the following:

    •  We optimized the algorithm used to track your heart rate on Versa 2 to complement our latest hardware.
    • Bug fixes and other improvements.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Versa 2 can be found here

If you run into any trouble updating your Versa 2, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips. If you have any issues after completing the update, when in doubt, try a restart on the watch.

How to restart your watch:

  1. For Fitbit Versa 2, hold the back(left) button for 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the button.

We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

I purchased my Versa 2 Special Edition on February 2nd, and it comes with firmware version 70.7.21, but it updated to that version the moment I set the watch up, apparently the latest version

Since the update, my Versa 2 will either stop registering touchscreen capabilities ("fixable" by restarting the device) or it completely restarts on its own.  My app says I'm currently up-to-date, and I've tried some of the other "hacks" mentioned, like making sure to go back to the factory clock face. Still, it locks up.  Going on a week now, and this whole process drains the battery pretty quickly.  Received as a Christmas gift, so I've only had it for about six weeks.  What should I do next?

I also have completely lost sleep scores on my Versa and in the app since Feb 1.

I have premium, Samsung Galaxy  10.  No idea why sleep is not recorded.  It is my #1 use and why I paid for premium.  I've tried the reboot/turn sleep settings on/off from another forum... no luck.

Contact fitbit. I experienced a very similar issue, with a device I received at Christmas. It is being replaced as the person said is considered defective.

I am still having the same issue as well. Apparently the latest Firmware update did not address the text notification issue.

Anyone having issues with the heart rate monitor now really inaccurate?

Best Answer

Exact same issue!

I've noticed on my workouts that the calorie count is 1/2 that it used to be. I'm using the exact routine and time.  Anyone else notice this?

Best Answer

Go to Settings. Change the Screen Wake option to Manual (button) until Fitbat patches this issue. The Auto Wake option is bugged now.

This is what I'm worried about. Few years ago I updated my charge hr and then it wouldn't turn on. Fitbit replaced it and then that one died. So I was basically fitbitless until December when I bought myself a versa2, so we'll see how third goes. I'm not rushing to update.

Thank you ManchuWarrior, That appears to have done it...  I made two changes on my versa, not sure which one did it (or if it was both), but the first time since Feb 1 when the firmware update deployed, my sleep score is back.  (previously there wasn't even any sleep data on my Versa; so it wasn't a sync issue, but the versa was not even recording it.)

Here's what I did:

In Settings/Sleep Mode, Dim display is off, "Schedule/Allow Sleep Mode to turn on" is now On.

In Screen Wake Option... set to manual.

And I my sleep was recorded last night.  (I also forced a hard reboot of my versa yesterday morning).

I am having inaccurate heart rate monitor issues after update my Versa 2.

Ever since I use Versa 2 my  phone goes dead in 6 to 7 hrs and I hardly use it! Why?

Best Answer

you are most likely running the app in the background and sync sets on "all day". Also notifications run your battery down. I have everything set to the minimum needed and sync manually.

Funny you should mention that, tonight I was riding my Exercycle and my heart rate on my Versa 2 was as much as 10 off from the heart rate monitor on my cycle.  This is a two day old device and if this doesn’t get fixed soon, it goes back. Can’t understand why the main basis of a Fitbit, tracking and heart rate (for me) would not be accurate. A difference of 10 is unacceptable.  Not to mention that I too have the latest FW and no EVO readings in my sleep tracking.

Thanks for that tip. Seems to have made a difference.

Hi everyone. It's good to see you here in this thread and welcome to our new members. I'm sorry for the delayed response and let me help you with your inquiries.

First of all, thank you all for sharing your thoughts about this new firmware and the experience with your Versa 2 after the update. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that you've had with your watches. Our team regularly checks the forums to work on our products and services based on our members feedback, so be sure that your comments haven't gone unnoticed.

Please note that this thread is to receive feedback about any issue experienced during or after the firmware update for Versa 2. If you have issues to set up, sync, compatibility or receive notifications, I invite you to start a new thread in the Android board, iOS board or Windows 10 boardas there are more chances for you to get an answer to your post in there.

@NadineMel, thanks for letting me know that your watch is resetting by itself. Since your post didn't mention, may I know if you've tried to manually restart it? If not, please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

@MagicSarah and @dlmoore555, I appreciate the time taken to troubleshoot your watches, as well for sharing the steps tried. Since your watches are still unresponsive, I went ahead and requested a case on your behalf so you can receive further assistance. Please keep an eye on your inbox, you'll get some information about your case.

@abitkin, thanks for your question and let me share that the estimated oxygen variation (EOV) graph is located under sleep stages in the Fitbit app, or, if you’re a premium subscriber, it’s on the Restoration tab under your sleeping heart rate information. Please note that you must get sleep stages to get this graph. Some of our members began seeing the graph in December 2019 and this feature will be available to all our members sometime in 2020.

@mikestrain@Malicatnz@Onondagamom@kimmmchung@maxtell@Mwhite1962@Simplysusan and @Mkomatsu, thanks for your efforts while troubleshooting your Versa 2. I understand your point of view since your watches aren't working correctly and after checking your details, I was informed by our Support team that you've cases opened with them. They're providing assistance via email, so make sure to check your inbox.

@jaywalkerice, thanks for letting me know the issues experienced with your watch, as well for taking the time to contact our Support team. I understand your point of view and while there isn't an option to return to the previous firmware version, I'd suggest to keep an open communication with our team so they can continue assisting you based on your watch's details.

@Valory, thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the steps tried on your own. Just to confirm, please let me know if the same happens when changing the Screen Wake settings to Manual. This will help me to further investigate.

@MoMosGoGo, thanks for trying the restart and please monitor your Versa 2's behavior on the next days. If your steps or floors aren't recorded accurately, let me know so I can work on this with you.

@DonnaSummit, thanks for sharing the accuracy issues experienced with your calories when working out. There are some factors that may affecting the amount of calories burned calculated by your watch and to discard them, please verify that your personal settings are correct in the Fitbit app and to be getting accurate heart rate readings are accurate while wearing your Versa 2. If the issue persists, let me know the type of activity that you're doing, as well if it was recorded using the exercise app or via SmartTrack.

@MaraMandrier87, I'm sorry that you're having accuracy issues with your heart rate readings. This shouldn't be happening and to work on this I'd recommend to turn off the heart rate function within your Versa 2 settings, restart your watch, turn back on the heart rate function, wear it on your wrist for the next days and let me know how it goes.

I'll be around if you have another question.

Hi Lizzy,

Yes I have done a manual restart and it still restart on it's own . It
restarts during my workouts too which interrupts my readings. I notice
if I keep it on Always on display it doesn't restart, and if I put it on
back on auto motion, it will restart on it own again and logo appears. One
day it restarted 3 times in a 5 min span. I believe it is a glitch as I
have no other issues with my Versa 2 that I have seen reported.

I also do not see the EVO graph under sleep restoration and I have Premium subscription.

Hi @LizzyFitbit, When I put my Versa 2 on manual wake, I don't have any problems at all. Always on display doesn't make a difference either. I've tried various combinations of settings/syncing and the only one that seems to cause the issues below is the auto wake setting. I'm using a Galaxy S10 if that helps with your troubleshooting.

Just like @NadineMel , my watch is also restarting on it's own randomly when I have it on auto wake (I feel it vibrate and when I look down, it has the fitbit logo). The behavior I'm experiencing is that when I put it on auto wake, it'll restarted a couple times for the next few hours then it stops auto-restarting but the touch screens stops responding. It wakes up when I turn my wrist, tap the screen, or press the button. I can soft reset it by holding the button down. Long-pressing the button still turns on my Alexa app. Making changes from my phone and syncing my watch still works too.
