It doesn't really go in or out.  It is just touch sensitive.  It always looks like it is slightly in.

Hi @heleenie@JohnnyRow  is correct. Practice turning on and off the display till you get the knack of doing it, using this process to get started.

Worn on the left arm -

rest your other thumb on the arm to the left of the watch

and forefinger on the back of the hand

and do a gentle squeeze of the watch

the fleshy part of the thumb will make the button work

using your nail won't work.

Thank you, but the damage is already done. Button is stuck in the pushed in position. Returning it to Fitbit for a replacement.

Are you sure you are talking about the Versa 3 and not the Versa 2?

Same here.  Not even sure how it got pushed in.  Will no longer charge.

Hi @deadon2 - the versa 3 has a haptic button which you cover to make work, so that is not the problem. You won't be able to use it though if the battery is not charged.

The most likely reason it won't charge is there is either a faulty charge cable or the watch contacts need good cleaning, see instructions in this link How to check charge cable - Sense/Versa 3 won't charge, won't start or blank screen

Versa 3s have digital buttons, not actual ones. It can't get stuck. Try shutting down the watch, waiting, and turning it back on. Or wait for it to run out of power.
