Versa 3 is tracking too many steps

It happens a lot to me. I have NO confidence in the way that this thing counts my steps. Last night I charged my Versa 3 and when I went to put it on I already had  33,744 steps. I tried all the thing they have put on this site and none of it worked. Swapped wrist, restarted, factory reset, reset the stride settings, removed the device completely and reinstalled, uninstalled the watch then uninstalled the program, reinstalled the program then reinstalled the watch. It randomly gives me thousands and thousands of steps. Yesterday my wife and I did 4 miles it was working great,, (I check it periodically to monitor my heart rate). I'm 65 years old and have a heart condition.. I depend on my Fitbit. it was working fine,, then and about three quarters of the way I went to check and all of the sudden it gave me 44, 311 steps!!! I actually WATCHED it go from 5315 to 44,311 right before my eyes!!!! My wife has a different brand activity tracker and hers NEVER does this.. i have had this thing for less than a year and I think i will just throw it in the drawer and buy the cheap brand my wears. At least it always works!!! I'm like...What the heck!!! This thing works great...except for counting steps. Fitbit...you really need to come up with a fix for this...not just keep telling us to restart, remove, and reinstall. This IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM!!! PLEASE LISTEN!!!!

Hi there, @sharkman8258. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your your Versa 3 before reaching out. We‘re taking your comments and sentiments in regards to our products and services into consideration.

I'm wondering if you're using another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

If you want to negate the extra steps, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

As a friendly reminder, please note that Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Hope that helps.

I have no other fitness tracker software on my phone. I have also tried removing the device completely, removing the software, changing hands, charging it in different places around my home, and factory resetting my Versa 3. I got this one as a replacement for my Ionic. Before the Ionic I had two other fitbit trackers (I do not recall the models). I have NEVER had this happen before. Not ever! I actually was looking at my Versa 3 when it added nearly 40,000 step. I actually watched it do it.
