Versa 3 side button not working

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When I put my watch on the charger last night, my Versa 3 was in complete working order. I took it off the charger this morning and now the side button will not work. My battery also went from 100% to 86% in the one hour I had it on. I do not have any “extras” turned on that would drain the battery and only use the Fitbit for the following functions - step count, sleep tracker, and text notifications. I have turned it off and back on twice and I’m not sure how to proceed. I purchased my Versa in October of 2021.

Oh wow mine too! Dark screen. Worst case. Is it an App thing?

Hi @Nini_t  -  for a dim screen you may be in Sleep mode, swipe face to the right to get to Quick Settings and check the icons are correctly set.

If you still have problems try a Shutdown from the Settings menu and wait 10 seconds before placing on the charger to restart it and charge it.

@lyndseyz, also try the Shutdown and some features came with the new firmware [snore detection] can impact battery usage, carefully check each of the issues in How to resolve the Major issues causing short battery life.

Me too. I charged it before bed, 100% as it lost power during the day, woke up and down already to 37%, an hour later 18% and I can’t use side button. Any advise??

Hi @LW03 - as suggested in the previous reply:

Same issue just sprang up for me. Watch purchased in September 2021. Left side button suddenly not working earlier this week after working fine the day before. I have done a shut down/reboot and even did a complete factory reset that did not fix the problem.

Hi @RWversa3  - as your watch is faulty and under warranty take it back to where you bought it for a replacement new one.

Thanks for reply. Appears a firmware update must have fixed it - button is suddenly working again today? Who knows…. if it bugs out again I’ll definitely exchange.

Hi, I'm having trouble with the left button of my Versa 3. I have had my Versa for about 1 year. I don't remember getting the watch wet or hitting it or anything but I went to check the time and I saw the screen was black and the button is unresponsive. I have tried charging the watch twice but nothing seems to wake it up and the button still won't press in. Any suggestions on how to get the button to work and wake up the watch?

Hi @lydia_braxton - if you double tap the screen and the display doesn't come on it may not be a button problem, it may be needs charging.

Note on a Versa 3 there is no button, it's an indentation, try squeezing the watch between finger and thumb so the fleshy part of the thumb covers the indentation, as you know.

If you do get the display to come on, swipe the watch face to the right to get to Quick Settings and make sure wrist wake is on, then when you look at the watch the display should come on without using the button or double tapping, providing there isn't a fault.

If the watch is not syncing with the app, it could need charging.

Follow the guide How to check charge cable - Sense/Versa 3 won't charge, won't start or blank screen

hi i tried what you suggested and when i squeezed the indentation it vibrated but the screen is still dark. i have tried pressing the indentation multiple times again but no vibration this time. the screen is still black and unresponsive. Do you have any other ideas?

Best Answer

@lydia_braxton - try squeezing the button for 10 seconds till it vibrates again, if the logo doesn't appear there may be a fault with the screen.

Check if it is syncing in the app, if it is it confirms the fault.

yeah it vibrated again this time but still black unresponsive screen. Can you recommend somewhere i can take the watch to get it fixed or have the screen replaced?

@lydia_braxton - it would cost more to fix it than a new one and as there is an internal fault, probably moisture, the damage may be too extensive anyway. That is if you can find someone as Fitbit don't repair them.

If it is under warranty it can be replaced where you bought it for free otherwise get a new one.

Don't be tempted to get a newer more expensive model as many features have been dropped, and your favourite clocks might not be available and certainly there are no non Fitbit apps available, not even an agenda app.

May be also consider other brands which have even longer battery life and many more features as Fitbit are gradually removing features from their existing watches and also development so their future is unsure.

@lydia_braxton- did you squeeze it and hold for at least 10 seconds till it vibrates, if it is still black you can chat via the Fitbit App, click profile photo, Help & Support, Contact Customer Support.
