Did you mean:

Versa ability to turn screen light off

I have a Charge 2 and the light is absolutely annoying when in bed as a small tap and it lights up the room and is really starting to become a nuisance.

I am interested to know if anyone can tell me if the Versa will provide the functionality to switch off the screen light at night?

Thanks!!

Hi, everyone!

I wanted to clear up any confusion around this question. Please read the following:

  • Quickview = Screen wake. This can be turned from "Auto" to "Manual," the same as it is on Ionic it will be on Versa.
  • In the Settings app on the watch, you can adjust screen brightness from the default "Auto" to Dim, Normal, and Max. Same for Ionic and Versa.
  • Lastly, there is an existing Feature Suggestion around this idea, so please check it out since it is currently "under consideration" and vote!

Let me know if there are still any questions!

I assume you know about turning off "Quick View" on the Charge 2.  Then at least, the light won't come on with arm movement.  I just did a quick read thru the Versa Product Manual and it appears the only light adjustments are turning off "Screen Wake" (Ionic term for Quick View) and the Brightness of the light.

Thanks for your response and effort cbwilsha

I have turned off the quick view a long time ago. Tapping or knocking the Fitbit charge 2 still sees the light come on. Interesting, any idea how low the brightness of the light can be set on the Versa?

Thanks again!!!

If we assume there is similar functionality as the Ionic, you can also set the light to dim, in addition to tuning "screen awake" from auto to manual.

Hi MarciM, have you used the Ionic? Do you know what manual screen wake is?

Thanks for tour answer!

Yes, I have an Ionic, wearing it right now. It is my current favorite in the Fitbit family, but I'm very excited to get my hands on a Versa. Screen awake, refers to the ability to aluminate/read your watch with a turn of your wrist. If you turn that functionality off, you need to press a button or tap your screen to view it. This is great for lite sleeps, so they aren't bothers by the screen and also great in a movie theater. I use the dim setting in darkly lit situations too, but leave on screen awake auto, so I can view time/data at a glance, but not have my wrist light up to brightly. Hope that helps.

At a guess I'd probably say no, although this is only something a fitbit member of staff can answer at this point.

A night mode is something I've seen requested for the Ionic but it's never been delivered.

They NEED to implement a way to turn off tapping to turn on...disabling quick view does not fix this issue at all, I still get blinded at night if the side of the device or screen get bumped. It's also a battery life issue during the day, and I've had notifications get turned on as the screen gets turned on/swiped by whatever happens to touch it. I just want to use buttons only to turn on my screen.

Would also be nice if their Dim settings weren't still as bright as the surface of the sun in a dark room.

I refuse to buy a new Fitbit until they listen to the thousands of customers that have voted for these simple to implement features (/FIXES to poor design). I am tired of being disturbed at night by my SLEEP TRACKER.

Tap to Wake is different than quick view/screen wake. Even if quick view is off, double tapping the edge of the device or the screen turns it on. This is the big issue, and I'd be willing to bet a lot of people are mistaking it for quick view. Simply having sleep hours for Quick View/Screen Wake will not solve the issue. Please also put "Disable Tap to Wake" under consideration.

I will not buy another device where I have no control over the screen turning on.

Thank you moosecat, you have expressed exactly what my frustrations are better than I did myself!

Fitbit need to allow us to toggle the screen light off or on and in my opinion this would be much better if we could set a time range say between 23:00-07:00 automatically have the screen off.

Thanks for toyo input!

I'm quite annoyed they marked this as solved to be honest. Turning off Quick View is not the solution, as while similar, that feature has nothing to do with the "tapping the screen to turn on" functionality. It seems even Fitbit staff don't know the difference between the two functions. Every time it's brought up, they bring Quick View in to the conversation.

I'm grateful I can turn of quick view/screen wake. I think sleep times on it would be great addition for others, but I don't personally use that function and have had it turned off for 2 years (I got my Blaze at release). But I have NEVER been able to turn off the functionality where double tapping my screen or the frame turns it on.

With the versa you cannot turn sceeen view from auto to manual. There is no feature to do this. You can only slide the slider to off then sync.

On the blaze you could change it on the watch from auto to manual. This is a baf flaw with the versa. Technology has gone backwards. Very frustrating as I went from the blaze to versa

NOTE: The above post by Julann223 is incorrect!

On the Versa and Ionic, make a long press of the left button and the Screen Wake and Notifications Settings (among others) are available.  For Screen Wake, it can be set at Auto or Manual.

Thankyou for this. When I first got my Versa I was reading posts on this and it was mentioned you could only do this through the dashboard and turn it off from there. I do not remember who posted this. My apologies

That is a true statement for a Charge 2.

Thanks for this, you are a lot clearer than the Fitbit moderators!  So now that I found screen wake (which disables quick view, even if you have quick view turned on), how exactly does it work?  What do you have to do to show the clock face?

You can press any of the physical buttons or tap the screen to wake the screen up.

Thanks. What extra functionality does having screen wake on manual provide? Does it reduce accidental screen wakings, such as when the device is gently banged on a hard surface?
