I accidentally start a run in exercise Which I never did so where do I go from here and how do I erase these steps that I didn’t do?

Hi @SunsetRunner, welcome to the community.
You can go into the fitbit app on your phone and tap on the exercise tile, from here tap on the run you want to delete and then tap the trash can in the top right corner of the screen.
As for the steps, it will still only record actual steps taken. So if you're sat on your sofa and start the run exercise you should notice that no steps are being recorded, at least not until you get up and walk/run around. So the steps you are seeing are the steps you would have taken anyway, regardless of the run activity being started.
However if you do still wish to delete/negate steps you can follow the instructions in this help article.
