Versa bricked after swimming

My 14-month old Versa completely died after using it for swimming. I know it's out of warranty, but because of all the other water damage complaints I've seen and because it was in perfect condition before swimming and completely bricked after it is clear there are some issues with the swim proofing. Given that I would not have gotten in the pool with it had it not been clearly advertised as swim-proof, can I please get a replacement? I promise to never wear it near water again!

(I was told I should have paid the extra $40 for the extended warranty... I will gladly pay that now if you'll send me a replacement device.)

I have had my Versa replaced two times also due to water from the swimming pool. These units are not water proof as they should be. While FitBit as been good about replacing the units, that just doesn't solve the fact that they should works as advertised.

You're absolutely correct. I have seen way too many complaints about the Versa dying after getting wet to believe it is a coincidence. Jealous of those who realized this while in warranty. With mine being just 2 months' out of the warranty period they are flat out denying my request for replacement. I realize they legally don't have to, but Fitbit used to care about customer good will and standing behind their product claims.

My Versa is also exactly 14months old and is bricked after swimming. Oddly enough I have never used it in  a gym or shower or pool ... until today! (perhaps the shock of me doing some meaningful exercise was too much for it!) My issue is slightly different in that I had literally just got in the pool when  no more than 30secs later I noticed the face had separated itself from the base and was hanging open. I immediately got out of the pool and took it off. It's doing nothing now.
Anyway, I came here here to have a look around and see if others had the same or similar issues and came across your post.
According to the warranty booklet that is in the box the Limited Warranty is one year unless you live in the EEA (which includes all countries in the EU) when it becomes 2 years!  I shall certainly be taking the issue up with them and fully expect a full and free repair/replacement!

Sorry Thingirl1 I've just realised that u wrote the $ sign so I'll make an educated guess that u are not living in EU...duh to me!

That's very interesting! Mine does not look outwardly damaged at all, but it is completely dead and gone.

I'm really curious as to why EEA would get a 2-year warranty while those of us in the U.S. only get one. Maybe something about Government restrictions? Either way best of luck to you on your replacement! 🙂 I'm honestly still hoping someone at Fitbit will replace mine, given that it died due to a false advertising claim of being swim-proof.

Haha, no problem! It's still good information to have. Versa water damage seems to be a big problem everywhere.

Exact same thing happened to me.  Fourteen month old Versa died after swimming.  Only getting discount offer, when I feel this should be replaced at no charge as this is apparently a known problem with this watch.

Same issue here.  14 months and i was in the water for 10 minutes.  Now its dead.  Fitbit wont replace it because it is out of warranty

I was told by support that they are working to improve their products, which is great! However, that does nothing for those of us with a broken $200 device just barely out of warranty. I finally took the discount and got a new one, but honestly, this is probably my last Fitbit. I will never again feel comfortable paying full price (expensive!) for one knowing that if it dies even one day past the warranty due to a manufacturer's defect they won't replace it. Especially since it seems a common occurrence.Support told me that next time I should pay the extra $40 (more expensive!) for the extended 3-year warranty, but when I found out it was through Square Trade it was an extra big no. I've seen way too many bad reviews of Square Trade on how difficult it is to get a replacement and how long it takes.

I'm right there with you. I bought it as a pre order and went deep into the ecosystem with an aria2 scale, and an Alta HR for my wife. 14 months later (and actually a bunch of swims and showers and dishes etc) and yesterday it died after 30 minutes in the kiddy pool splashing with my kids. Support said I'm out of luck, but offered me a coupon (when you can get them much cheaper from a third party) that breaks down to $16 a month to own this watch. no way near a good investment. and by the fourms this looks like a very common problem.

They offered me 50% off

Ouch... the scale is something I thought about but never spent the money on. That makes it an even tougher decision. The other thing about the discount... when they gave me my discount they were also having a 30% off sale on their devices, so I thought that would help. HOWEVER, the link they send you for the discount takes you to a separate site where you don't get the 30% off or the 2-day shipping they were offering.

I did the same breakdown by month. 😄 I wasn't even willing to pay that much for a gym membership and instead invested in my own weight bench and an elliptical off Craigslist.

I am done with FitBit just to many issues with the Versa.

Exactly the same thing happened to my wife's Fitbit Versa TWICE! First time it was just a few months after purchase so they sent a replacement. The second one just died a few days ago and it's now over a year after the original purchase, no replacement, ways of money. I see this is a trend. How can I trust Fitbit at all after that?! They say it's 50 meters water resistant, but it's not even 2 meters water resistant. What a shame to be honest! No more Fitbit, there are other brands

Mine came back to life after a week in a plastic baggie with rice, but now
a month or so later the vibration has all but disappeared.. yeah, not so
waterproof. I'm on borrowed time with this thing. Im pretty sure I'll be
looking at other brands soon. 😞

Yep. Went swimming this week and my Versa just shut right off and won’t come back. This is my second FitBit and I won’t be purchasing another FitBit product again. They just don’t last at all. Apple Watch here I come!
