I keep getting this message when browsing apps or clock faces for my versa. As you can see, I have an internet connection that works just fine. For some reason though, after a few minutes I start getting this error. Sometimes retrying will fix the problem, other times I have to back out of the app entirely for it to begin working again. This doesn't effect my ability to use my Versa, but it's not a good user experience.
Turning mobile data on and off does not help.

I had this problem on my Pixel 2 XL. I searched for private DNS in my settings. I found that my Private DNS Mode was set to dns.adguard.com. I set it to Automatically. Once that was set, I was able to access the Apps and Clock Faces with in the Fitbit App.

I use none of those, or anything similar, and I'm still having this problem.

On my moto g stylus, I only had to disable systemless hosts and reboot.

I don't really understand your suggestion and have no idea what AdAway is or where to delete it from. I am using the app on a Samsung A5 (2017) phone.

I had the same issue.
So I looked up, to which address Fitbit tries to connect, so that I can add it to the whitelist.
The address is cloudfront.net and with it added to the whitelist everything runs smooth.

Did all this. Didn't work. I'm returning the charge 4 asap. Maybe a cheaper version won't have this brain fart in it's application.

Thank you, this seemed to work for me, but then stopped. I did more research and added '*cloudfare*' to my whitelist and things started working again. I can now access Clock Faces and Apps and keep AdAaway enabled.

I realize this is old, but what I did was toggle off wifi (add blocker is on router) and then connected to watch faces through Bluetooth with no problem.

Yeah, that is a solution, it depends where the blocking happens.

There is no question that some type of Ad Blocker or other internet security app that you may have installed is blocking the Watch Faces or Apps feature and giving that erroneous message of "oops looks like no internet connection loading apps". After reading the other replies on this page, I recalled that I installed some type of ad blocker. Mine was called DisconnectPro for Android. As soon as I whitelisted the Fitbit app inside of DisconnectPro, the feature immediately worked.
My Samsung phone comes from Verizon and they install a program called Digital Secure. I thought maybe the issue was because of this program but I had that program totally disabled already.
If you are having this problem, go through every app you have installed on your phone and look for some type of internet security program. If you don't find it, go through your apps again until you find it. Search for Apps with a word of "Secure", "Block", "Ad", "Internet", "Connect". Otherwise, you will spin your wheels uninstalling and reinstalling, starting and restarting and rebooting your phone and your Fitbit getting frustrated by the minute. You will find that app!

I looked in my AdGuard logs and found that google-analytics.com kept getting blocked. Once I unblocked that, the gallery started working for me.

Same issue on Android with a Versa. No suggested fixes has worked.
Neither works with 5Ghz m Wifi on the phone nor without (using the phone's 4G internet) - also with and without dns.adguard.com set as Private DNS (makes no difference).
I have tapped Retry hundreds of times botn continously and each month for the pase year or so. Every other app can use the Internet and Fitbit can even check for firmaware updates but no apps clockfaces etc. Been like this for a year I think.
I've never added a wifi network to my Versa btw but apps and clockfaces etc worked nicely earlier anyway - but stopped at some point - perhaps due to a firmware upgrade.

I know this is a bit of thread necromancy, but ive been fighting with the Adguard whitelist for some time and finally found the address it needed.
