This is almost the only reason I buy fitbit, developing a smart watch app with only js and svg. I have just purchased a Sense 2 and now I found out Sense 2 cannot install 3rd party apps. In fact, until i try to connect my watch to dev bridge.
The point is, there's no documentation on whether you can create app for certain device, and cautions in documentations state Sense 2 and Versa 4 is currently not available for 3rd party development. Besides, users are able to turn dev options on for Sense 2 (not sure about Versa 4). If those 2 models are not in the list, you should at least make users unable to turn the dev options on or document it, even it is temporarily.
+1 The main reason I'd like to buy Fitbit is an ability to develop a custom app using JS and HTML only. Versa 4 without 3rd party apps isn't option for me more.

This post is over a year old and still no resolution or answer of when 3rd party apps are coming, why is this? Everyone is saying the same thing and you have 2000+ people wanting the feature they expected to come when the first turned on there watches, but still no answers
Yes it really sucks that Google with all of it's apps for phones did noy allow them for the Versa 4. My older Versa had 3rd party apps installed that I used all of the time and would love to have on my Versa 4.

Lucky me for finding this post. Was just about to order a fitbit sense 2 but need to look for some other brand, this is a dealbreaker because it doesn't support 3rd party apps.
Yes I think Google is trying to kill Fitbit. They have ruined the smart watch for Fitbit by taking away the 3rd party app that have been a part of a Fitbit smart watch since the launch of the Ionic almost 10 years a go
I hope so. Because I have had a Fitbit since all it was was a clip on pedometer and have stuck thru all the new changes and problems even weathered all the Ionic problems and stuck with then. And now Google screwed it up and took away the 3rd party apps I gained soooo long a go with the gen 1 Ionic
Had the original Sense until the screen randomly popped off one day. Been waiting months to get a new fitbit, couldn't justify the cost of the Sense2 because I didn't need the couple extra features so when a good deal on the Versa4 came up I was beyond happy to have a fitbit again(been wearing one since early 2017 so felt lost without it). Now wishing I'd done my homework before purchasing because I wouldn't have gotten what is essentially a downgrade due to the changes made, particularly the loss of 3rd party apps. Only had this for 3 days, may return it and look for other options unless there's concrete evidence things will be changing. Not cool Google, basically trying to force people into the Pixel which is so much more and not realistic for many people's wallets these days.
Return it now while you still can! We’ve all been waiting years for them to change and start adding additional features and it isn’t going to happen! Go with Garmin! Sent from my iPhone
I was ready to purchase a Versa 4 and like a lot of the new features but changed my mind when I found out that 3rd party apps had been removed. I love my music and enjoy having the ability to store and play on my Versa 2 and control my Spotify from the watch so I don't need to carry the phone with me all the time.
Not having this capability limits the capability of this smartwatch and not one that will win customers over. It should be first on your list of items addressed so you offer to your target audience a usable smart watch not as its offered today.
