Hi @HJG29, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to add Skiing/skating/snowboarding to the exercise list. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.
I originated this thread years ago and there has never been any action on the request. I spent an hour and a half cross country skiing this afternoon and the app didn’t even give me credit for a workout, even though I had 30 minutes at “peak” and another 60 minutes at “cardio” heartbeat. It gave me more steps for running my snowblower up and down my driveway earlier in the day. According to Fitbit, mowing my lawn in the summer and plowing my driveway in the winter are my most effective workouts. -- Steve Elkins 612-578-2103
Hi Steve, There were a number of threads that were combined into this one. I started a different thread about 5 years ago asking for the same thing. I gave up waiting 2 years ago (as have thousands of others), and bought a Garmin Fenix 5. While the Garmin does track snow sports, unfortunately it doesn't do some other things quite as well as Fitbit, such as heart rate monitoring, where the Garmin is horribly unreliable (and of course Garmin are nearly as bad as Fitbit about fixing flaws and adding features). Regards, Graham Rawolle (from Australia).
I still have my 5 year old Charge 2 which I keep mostly for the heart rate and sleep monitoring. I supplement it with Map my Ride to track my Summer Cycling. Won’t buy a new one when this one breaks, though. -- Steve Elkins 612-578-2103
I just bought a Versa 2 and I'm so disappointed that there isn't a preset nordic skiing exercise option to track my workouts and no way to edit the preset GPS exercise options post workout. I used the hike option to track my most recent ski and for some reason it registered a 10km skijor as a 5.13 km. I've used other phone based GPS apps on the same trail and never had this issue. I am guessing that the fitbit doesn't include my glide distances in hike mode. Does bike work better? Anyone? Does Fitbit plan to add some more outdoor activities to its canned exercise options?
It's appears that it has been over 6 years since people first started asking for this feature. I could definitely use cross country skiing exercise added. I use a machine so logging something with GPS doesn't do any good. I expend so much more energy skiing than running or using a treadmilll that the work arounds are not adequate. Adding my request for this to the list of many other commenters.
Hi @stamnsve, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to see Skiing/skating to the list of activity shortcuts. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.
Under consideration for 2 years? Really? @LizFitbit How about some honesty. I seems to me that FitBit can’t or won’t handle challenge of adding skiing.
