Allow multiple devices on the same account (Sense/Versa series, Inspire, Charge & Luxe)

Be allowed to have both a Fitbit Versa and a Fitbit Ionic on the same account so you can easily switch between them.

Thank you SumGuyInMN....clearly they are not listening to their customers on this thread, perhaps if they are bombarded with calls they will take into account their customer preferences.

I wish I had checked the site before ordering my second charge HR.   I never thought it would be a problem to have two linked to my account.   It only makes sense to have multiples of the same device - especially for the ones like the HR where the only way to have a different color band is to purhase another device (or  purchase aftermarket items).  Plus use one for 'dirty work' and another for dress up.

Please consider adding the functionality of linking two or more of the same device to an account.  I'm hoping I can return the new one since I haven't worn it yet.

Please consider the ability of having a second FitBit Device on the same account that is the same type. I purchased a second Charge HR so I can always have one charged up only to find out it is not allowed. I have to get a different device in order to do this.

Right now, this is a lost sale since I will be returning my second Charge HR until this functionality is added.

i'd like to see this happen also - seems one should be able to sync whichever tracker one is wearing with the account... I have 2 Charge HRs - long story as to why - and thought, mistakenly, that the app would just sync with the tracker... i also have the flex but who wants to go back to that after using a newer improved tracker, although at least with the flex one could change the band.. if only that were the case with the Charge..

You know, the instructions for adding a new device to an account are deceptive. I read them before ordering a second Zip. Now, trying to add the Zip, I discover than only one of the same device can be on the account. There wasn't a way for me to know this from the instructions on the Fitbit site. I could only discover this when I attempted to add the new device to my account. I now see that this is a standing problem, but I wouldn't have thought to look it up in  the community forums since the official instructions say nothing about this problem. Now I've opened the packaging and can't return the new Zip, nor can I add it to the old Zip. As far as I'm concerned, Fitbit owes me money.

Any news on this actually happening Fitbit???

I suspect that most folks are underestimating the scope of the changes that are necessary for this to work properly.  It's not the simple, "you support two of different models, supporting two of the same model is effectively the same".  For instance, if you had two of the same and you:

  • Set an alarm.
  • Get a low battery notification.
  • See it sync.
  • Remove a tracker from your account.

Which one of the two is it referring to?  Currently all of these functions work off the Fitbit model, so you could no longer use that to distiguish between them.  Also keep in mind that many models (like the Flex, Blaze and Alta) have swappable bands and do not necessarily have a specific color.

It would be tragic if you set the alarm for your Charge HR in order to wake up for your flight in the morning only to find out that you had set it on the Charge HR that is currently charging, not the one that you wore to bed.

I do understand the difficulty of this however a simple solution is to allow users to name their fitbit how they want, leave it to the user to distinguise their tracker whether it be by having ones of different colors and putting it in the name or physically writing on it.

The ability to have heartrate tracking all day and night without interruption sounds great however I don't think it is reasonable to require a user who wants to do this ot have both a charge HR and one of their most expensive devices too just to have all 24/7 tracking

i like this idea... hadnt thought about the down time due to charging or
discovering the battery has expired!

and regarding the comment about alarms just be sure they are set the same
on both!

and in general keep the one not worn out of sync range?

It's not so hard. Each device has a MAC address. If you could name them as you add them it wouldn't be that difficult to add Mac ID/device name relationships to the app.

... and this is example of why Open Source and Open standards is better.  I really hate ending up dependent on a single vendor to support the hardware they sold me, and they don't, when I know it the device was opened up a bit, some form of open source solution would exist in no time.  Smart companies will leverage that to improve their product and sell more.  Dinosaur companies get scared and get hooked on user lock in, and then get suprised when an alternative comes along and frustrated customers desert them quick smart.

Come on FitBit, lift your game.  No idea why it was not added this when multiple devices was added, you had to put in a bunch of coding effort just to lock out mutiple devices.  Stupid.

If it can't be done, then Fitbit should change its description to say "you
can add another tracker of a different model." Otherwise, the advertising
is deceptive.

Please add this.  It is just silly that you can't do it now.  Seems like you actually made more work for your developers.

Another vote for this functionality, I have a Surge for outdoor wear and a new one in a different colour for dress but can't use them on the same account. Come on Fitbit, sort this out please.

Well there are already 9 pages of user requests for this feature, so I doubt this will help, but I would also like to see this feature added.

I recently had a great experience dealing with Fitibit's customer service team and I trust that they have forwarded this information to the right people. As a product design engineer, I know from experience that it is ultimately management's decision to begin a new project. But as everyone has commented this project seems like a no-brainer. Happier customers and more products sold with a relatively easy fix? After reading this thread I really am dissappointed in the leadership more than anything else.

If engineering resources are limited, then you should consider open sourcing your software, or at least parts of it. This and other issues would already be resolved for the company free of charge and the fitbit community would be stronger for it. I for one would be happy to contribute to this project.

Please include a feature to allow set up of 2 charge HR at the same time.

Hi,
It would be great to add a simple feature of setting up 2 devices of the same type. Due to the not so great durability of some wristbands, a second one just for sports and training would be good.
Thanks,
A

I so agree with all your comments!
It would be great to add a simple feature of setting up 2 devices of the same type. The limitation is probably some line of code that can easily be removed by Fitbit. Due to the not so great durability of some wristbands, a second one just for sports and training would be good!

@SunsetRunner,

While I can understand this being desirable for some folks, I disagree with the assessment that it's a simple if-you-can-do-multiple-of-different-models-you-can-easily-do-multiple-of-same-model.  Using three different model trackers on my account, there are many portions of the UI that are model specific.  For instance:

  • Informing you which tracker just synced
  • Setting alarms
  • Removing a tracker
  • Device settings

If you have two Alta's (which don't have a particular color) which one just synced?

Which one did you just set the alarm on?  Which one did you just remove from your account to give your friend to try?

And even if you could label them differently on your account, how do you distinguish the actual devices (remember some devices, like the Alta and Blaze are not color specific since the bands are interchangeable)?

What if you set an alarm for a morning flight on your Alta, only to discover once you have missed your flight that you set the alarm on the other Alta on your account?

In order to do this appropriately, you'd need to update the UI on:

  • Online dashboard
  • Mobile App on Windows (phone, tablet, laptop, and desktop)
  • Mobile App on Android
  • Mobile App on iOS (phone, tablet, iPod)

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying that it's not as simple as many folks believe that it is.

And honestly, I think there are other features that I'd like to see first (like team challenges).

Stepping Up

I have had my flex for 3 years and it's been great.  I recently purchased a pretty band to put it in so I could wear it to more formal occasions and have it disguised.  Then I saw that I could have more than one device on my account so I purchased a second flex to wear everyday.  I also thought this would be perfect for an upcoming trip out of the country when I'm not sure I'll be able to charge my fitbit- I thought I could just change from one flex to the other.  I was very disappointed when I received the second and found I couldn't link it to my account. I would like to ask FitBit to consider making this possible because it would make it more useful and more flexible for the clients.   Please consider!  Thanks.

@scootergirl,

While you may have other legit reasons to have a 2nd Flex, I don't understand how either one of the two that you cite will really apply.

Regarding 2nd Flex to wear everyday:  I can see the point with other trackers that may experience some cosmetic damage (like the Charge), but the actual Flex is completely covered in the band.  If you want a band that isn't scratched or simply one of a different color, simply buy the band and slip your existing Flex out of one band and into the other.  No need for a 2nd Flex, unless you find the entire 10 second process of switching bands much too taxing.  You can buy bands of different colors at the Fitbit store.

Regarding taking a 2nd Flex out in the country: Having a 2nd Fitbit won't help.  You can't turn off the Flex.  So while you're carrying both Flexes (the one on your wrist and your charged extra), they'll both consume battery and will both deplete the battery at about the same time (five days from when you started your trip).  If you're going to be out in the country, you're better off carrying a USB battery pack and topping off the battery every couple of days.
