It's a software issue that hasn't been priority. If it was we all would of heard about it ages ago when we all started requesting it. Unfortunately, I love their products and will eventually upgrade to their Alta so I can have exchangeable bands. My first charge's band started to come apart and Fitbit company sent me a new one. Later the second had issue and I called and they just sent me a third. The Alta is basically the charge with interchangeable bands but with a few more bells and whistles. So I expect the charge to eventually be discontinued. The Alta will also take care of having fm different bands. However the capability to have the same kind of Fitbit on one account should be a no brainier for Fitbit. I am hoping they resolve this soon, well before my third Fitbit charge band falls apart and I have to get the Alta.
I just purchased another Charge HR because it is available in some cool colors but..... You can't have two Charge HR devices on the same account. I just spent that $ and can't use it with out loosing my other one. 😡😓😪😢
I'm glad to see, that other people have the same problem as me and that they already posted it in here.
I own two Fitbit Blaze. One for work, training and all the other activities, where it can get scratched, dirty or wet. The other I wear in my recreation and I want it to be nice and clean.
And for charching it is perfect too. No missing steps.
I hope the Fitbit-Team will change the limitation in the app soon, because I think this can't be that difficult. Functionally there isn't a big difference between Blaze and Surge, and this would work Fitbit tells
Fitbit just sent me a warranty replacement for one of my Surges. Clicking the link in the tracking email takes you to a Fitbit-branded page that has Fitbit advertisements scrolling at the bottom of tha page... The last one reads:
"Why choose? You don't have to.
Use the Fitbit app to switch between multiple Fitbit trackers without ever missing a step."
While, technically, I suppose that's not untrue, it does imply that the Fitbit app makes it real easy to switch between them (e.g.: select tracker; activate/synch; go!), versus the 5-10 minutes it actually takes "replace your tracker" (and reconfigure alarms and exercise shortcuts).
@SpidermanBob I'not sure what your link and how t relates to false advertising and the use of two Fitbits. Your link is to a tracking numver associated with the delivery of a product by FedEx. They are not advertising but disolaying tge latest info on a shipment. Ie: a third party company reporting a notice by a second third party company about a device that Fitbit shiped out.
@Rich_Laue - I'm well aware that the link is to tracking information, on a third-party website, however it's branded to look like a Fitbit page, and includes Fitbit advertising at the bottom of the page: 5 scrollable banner ads for Fitbit products (I was referencing the fifth one).
I wasn't able to include a picture of it when I wrote that post on my phone, but now that I'm at a computer, this is what I was talking about (this is at the bottom of the page, and is clearly a Fitbit advertisement):
I wanted a new Fitbit so that I could put on a newly charged one when the battery got empty.. I checked the FAQ and it said that I could use multiple devices on the same account..
After checking prices and features, I decided that the one I had is the best (in my pricerange) and bought a new Charge HR.. I got the new device and got really surprised when I had to switch and not just add.. After revisiting the FAQ page I noticed this line..
Switch between any trackers you like. Your account can have one of each tracker model and MobileTrack.
"One of each tracker model"... This should have been more visible and moved to first sentence.. All I really read was "Adding more than one Fitbit tracker to your account gives you the convenience of switching between trackers while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard."
So please... fix this, and in the meantime make it more clear that you can only have one of each type..
@Rich_Laue With my two Fitbit Surge trackers (like all the others who have posted in this thread, who have two of the same model tracker), there is no way to have more than one of them connected to your account at the same time - there is no ability for me to choose which Surge I want to use today - making switching between them cumbersome: in order to switch to my Tangerine Surge, I have to replace my black one (removing it from my account), then reconfigure alarms and exercise shortcuts on the "new" one.
I would like to connect two Fitbit Blaze to the same account and have date merge as if one device. I know you can connect two different Fitbit devices and have this happen, however I would like to have it happen with two devices where both devices are the same, please☺️
I would like to add my voice to this request as well. I would like to put two Fitbit Charge HRs on the same account so I can switch them out. The community board on this topic has a lot of people requesting this feature, which would definitely increase sales for Fitibt. I am not sure why this is a difficult feature to provide for customers or why it is not seen as a sales tool: it meets the needs of the customer base (retention of happier customers) and people buy more devices-everyone wins!
Please please please allow more than one of the same device. There are four in my fam. My wife and two young kids. We all enjoy our Fitbit Charges i have to delink any particular one to sync or make changes to any other one. It would be graet to be able to administer all four from one software application. Currently its not family friendly.
Of course you could track everybody's activity with one account. Each tracker has a unique identifier and so the activity of the one communicating at the time would be displayed. Plus, i don't use the app for much more than making changes to the configurations anyway. I track the activities on the tracker itself. (Novel idea right?).
I'm in the same boat with the Surge. Speaking for myself, the Surge comes with a fixed wristband thus I'm married to the color of the band. I bought a second in another color with the hope of varying things up once in a while. I'd also like to use one for my more intense workouts & runs & use the other for more casual things. A third reason (though not a primary one) is to have a charged back up when I'm going on long hikes/camping. Lastly, a big reason for Fitbit would be to encourage SELLING MORE PRODUCTS! I couldn't do what I wanted to so I returned the 2nd band & now Fitbit has less revenue/profit and increased expense having to process the returned band via the proper regulatory channels (now, it just cost Fitbit money).
Having come up with 4 obvious reasons, the real question is for Fitbit to answer why we CANT do this? It seems like a very simple ability that takes more effort to omit than to built this feature in. Every Fitbit has its own Bluetooth ID/MAC, so the app should be able to easily distinguish between 2 devices no matter what they are - you could even be able to give each one a nickname. While repetitively replacing one band with the other is a workaround, it is not a convenient one. Pointing customers to workaround their software isn't a very good business model, especially when there are so many forum threads requesting this single feature.
The only argument not to is to prevent people from "double counting" steps, but that's a farse since I could easily keep doing that with 2 different devices.
So again it boils down to: 1) making it easier for customers do what they want & 2) adding a simple no brainier feature that could lead to selling more of your higher price point items.
In other words, "you can't do that" is not an acceptable response that should count as a "resolution" to this forum question & again the real question is WHY IS THIS NOT POSSIBLE?
I have a Fitbit Charge HR that I wear on my wrist everyday. I also bought an XL Charge HR to wear on my ankle for those times that I am mowing the lawn, pushing a grocery cart, pushing a stroller, carrying a baby, etc. and I am not able to swing my arm, but I want my steps to still be counted. I was so bummed when I saw that I can't have both trackers on my app!! This really needs to be a feature that is allowed! If we can have multiple trackers, why can't we have multiple trackers of the same type? We could just name them if they are the same (i.e. Wrist Charge HR and Ankle Charge HR - or for others maybe Black Charge HR and Blue Charge HR). Please add this feature. Thank you!!
Yes, please add this feature. I bought a new Charge HR to replace my original black Charge HR, but was given a discount & bought a second one of a different color for fashion & so I can always have one mostly fully charged. I agree with Psychogiggle to allow different names for them, as well!
Thank you

More than one tracker can now be linked to a single account but they have to be different devices 😞 It would be really good if they could remove this limitation!
I have been given a second fitbit flex and was excited because I could charge them alternately and never miss a step! But I was dissapointed to find out this isn't possible though 😞
I just bought a second charge hr because I wanted to have multiple different colors only to find out I am unable to link it to my account unless I remove the original one. Since there is no way to change just the band like some others I had to buy another one to get a different color. I never saw anywhere that I wouldn't be able to add it until I bought another one and tried. When is this feature going to be available? If not soon I will have to return the new charge hr.
I am also among the truly disappointed as my husband just bout me the pink charge hr because I kept seeing hints on my dashboard that I could have multiple devices on one account. But at no time anywhere in the hint did it mention as long as it's not the SAME device. Why couldn't it be added as a different name? Why is it not possible to add any device as long as it has a different name i.e.: pink charge hr? Very disappointed as I love my original purple one but really wanted the pink and was also going to buy the orange. Such a waste.
