I recently bought a Versa 2 thinking I could use my Charge 3 along with my Versa2 like I did with my Charge2 and Charge3 which did work. I would not have purchased the Versa 2 if I knew this was the case. I strongly suggest you resolve this issue.
While I can work around this issue by setting my devices up as new every time, it's frustrating to have to go through the setup process each time I want to switch devices. Please help us out with this one, Fitbit!
My Versa was compatible with my Zip. My top need is a good step counter. Initially I only had a Zip, and it did that nicely. Later, I was given a Versa, which brought new features. But the important thing is, I could use both at the same time. Not just switch back and forth, but the Fit captured steps, while the Versa did the same, plus flights of stairs, heart rate, etc. And the beauty was, Fitbit software did a fine job of sorting out the details on the back end. If I was getting dressed in the morning, and the Zip was on the table, Fitbit took the steps from the Versa. But some activities (I think everyone recognizes) may involve walking but not swinging my arm (pushing a grocery cart, walking a sleeping baby). At these times, Fitbit would take the higher step count from the Zip. Life was good. Until the dog chewed up the Zip. Fitbit stopped selling Zips. The nice lady on the Sales chat told me I could buy an Inspire, remove the band, and put that in my pocket. Ok, did that, and .... you know the story. I now need to choose between the better step counter (carried in pocket, not on the wrist) or the extra features. I now carry the Inspire, and my Versa sits in my nightstand drawer. What a waste! I cannot sync it back up, without a great deal of effort. The battery on the Versa drained, but it could not alert me. Now, even though I've recharged the Versa, it cannot sync to get the current time, so it's worthless as a simple watch. I'll give Fitbit a solid A for their electro-mechanical engineering. I'll give them a D- on this backend data fiasco.
My 2 cents: I have a Versa 2 and a Charge 3. Now that I've spent some time switching between them, here are the biggest issues that seem fairly easy to correct.
1) When you go to setup a new Tracker it will ask "Switch to Charge 3 or Switch to Versa 2 depending". So honestly the change isn't all that time consuming. Garmin does it the same way, but the difference is Garmin remembers ALL your settings on the other watch so it is much more seamless. There is nothing to setup each time, just tell it which one you are currently wearing.
2) Going from the Versa 2 to the Charge 3 is pretty simple. The biggest issue is that I have to setup up my weather locations again in the weather app, and I have to go to "notifications" every time to slowly move the slider switches to receive all the notifications I want again. I don't see why this has to be, I don't understand why the account can't just remember those settings since they would most likely be exactly the same for both watches.
3) Going from the Charge 3 to the Versa 2 is the worst, but still not all that horrible. Again the issue is that the Versa 2 forgets some settings (but not all for some reason). It remembers all the alarms, clock faces, the sleep modes, vibration intensity etc, so why does it forget my wifi password? Why not have that stored on the device itself so I don't have to enter it every time I switch. Same issue above with weather and notifications.
So this seems like a very simple thing to fix. The watches obviously remember most of my settings so why not just have them remember all, then the switch would take only a minute instead of a longer process. Thanks!
JonDavidL, what you describe is everyone's complaint. Yes, the watch remembers what that particular model remembers and the site/app remembers nothing. You start over every time you change devices. If it takes more than 30 seconds to change to a different watch, it's too long. It could be automatic. The device registered to you that is receiving/transmitting data is active. All bluetooth/wifi devices have a unique identifier. This is not a big deal technically.
It's interesting that this feature suggestion sits idle while most other feature suggestions with the same amount of user support have been implemented. This isn't a technical hurdle for Fitbit (not hard), it's a marketing decision. My 2 cents.
Oh so it has been 2 years and it is still under consideration?! I am seriously disappointed that my versa and the newly bought inspire hr can't work together because I needed the inspire hr for its slimmer look, but it doesn't have the oxygen sensor!! How frustrating!!
This is not true. I have a Versa2 and a Charge 3. They cannot be on the same account. If you switch, Fitbit removes the previous device and you have to go through the entire set up a device process again, again prompted to switch device.
I CAN have my old Charge 2 and the Charge 3 on the same account at the same time, but the Versa2 can be the only device on my account.
yep, its total bull, i had the same issue, got a second device as a gift, thought to myself ... great, never have any charging downtime .... WRONG! now I have a spare device sitting in a box ... perfect!
@KDJ2020 the Charge 3 and Versa 2 both run Fitbit IS and therefore, yes only one.
In the same way you added the Charge 2 to your account with the Charge 3, you can add the Versa 2 to your account then add the charge 2 back on.
Think back and you will remember that when adding the Charge 3 all other trackers where removed.
@JonDavidL The Versa 2 and Versa will remember the WiFi password, when charging the tracker will automatically connect to the WiFi, update any apps and music.
The problem is that the add device routine, resets all this data since Fitbit treats it as a new to you device
Results may vary. I have the Fitbit app running on an iPod Pro. When I had a Charge2HR and a Charge 3 I could keep them BOTH on the same account at the same time. Both of them could auto-sync and show the same “stats” at the same time. In this way I was never without a device when a battery charge was required. When the Charge2HR failed, I bought the Versa2 thinking the results would be the same. They are not.. I now must remove and re-install if I choose to switch devices. This a pain in the.... especially since I must re enter my WiFi password when switching to the Versa2. As I mentioned in my original post, I would not have purchased the Versa2 had I known this was the case.
I think the point that everyone is trying to make is that it should allow multiple devices to connect. It would be more convenient for the users, providing users with more options (for style, fit, circumstance), while also increasing revenue for FitBit. I just a poorly designed app/solution set (due to the inability to connect the two devices).
I work on a treadmill desk which requires my wrists to be on the keyboard, so as I walk during my day it is nearly impossible to log steps with the Charge 3 on my wrist.
So that's when I switch to my Inspire and clip it on my belt.
The process of switching between my Charge 3 and Inspire is too complicated and too taxing. It assumes I am pairing a new device every time. There's no simpler way to switch between devices easier and faster. That would help save me so much time and energy.
That is not the fitbit store. That is fitbit help. And since the store is where a customer makes a purchase, it should be on the description of the product. Fitbit is aware of this but chooses to do nothing about it.
And there is another help page (below) which has a section titled "HOW DO I SET UP A REPLACEMENT DEVICE OR ADD A SECOND DEVICE TO MY ACCOUNT?" that says absolutely nothing about the inability of adding a second device if both are "smart" devices. They have been aware of this since Feb 11, 2020 and have done nothing about changing this help page.
Also, there is a blog article that ADVERTISES this feature (below) despite the fact that none of the devices that fitbit is selling on their site can be added together on the account. Again, they have been aware of this since Feb 11, 2020 and have done nothing about changing this help page.
Also, with regard to removing a device from the account to add another, then removing the other to add back the original, that is not an acceptable solution.
It is also not acceptable that they let a feature request thread go on for 2 years without giving their loyal customers a definitive answer as to whether or not they intend to do something about it.
Fitbit doesn't care about any of this. Now they are going to release a Charge 4! And anyone who now has a Versa, Versa 2 etc will not be buying it since they can not both be on the app at the same time. I am currently switching either between my Alta HR and Versa, or Alta HR and Charge 3 but it is a pain to have to add either the charge 3 or versa each time..
You're making assumptions. I didn't say the blog was written in Feb 2020. When I say they have known since Feb 2020, it is because I notified them and was told they would edit the help page, edit the blog post, and add something to the product descriptions on their store (where it should be).
I'm aware that it's under consideration... and has been for 2 years. That's too long for no response from fitbit as to whether or not they'll entertain fixing this. It's not an accident that they don't update. They know how bad this is and don't want customers to leave. But the ARE leaving.
I have no idea what you mean by "Personally It annoys me that users need to ask Fitbit to bring back an option that they previously fought for and had received." But don't bother clarifying.
This is something that many loyal fitbit users want and fitbit is ignoring it. Those who don't care will stay with fitbit. Those who do care about this feature will not stay with fitbit. There are plenty of fitness devices out there.
Who says Fitbit is ignoring users. Adding multi support for trackers with Fitbit OS is not simply as easy as throwing a switch, but requires a rework of the app and click store, along with the testing and troubleshooting.
You say that you don't understand the one paragraph, but then yup summarized what I wrote.
