Challenges not Based on Steps, eg. Sports, Stairs, Active Mins

It would be nice to have different types of challenges that aren't solely based on getting our steps in.

For instance, the number of active minutes in a day, loss challenge, calories, water consumption. Some activities don't count steps such as cycling, skiing or skateboard.  I would like to be able to compete against my friends while doing other activities.

Swimming as well.

Challenges based on active minutes, an adjusted calorie burned (have a conversion rate into points), V02 score changes, or basically any other reasonable metric will improve the value of these competitions and make the Fitbit community more active.

This might help eliminate the cheaters who wiggle their fitbit to get more "steps" in.  I watched a lady take off her fitbit and bounce it up and down while we were on an airplane.   :0

Just chiming in.  Would be great to have number of active minutes as a challenge.  I bicycle 5 days out of the week, but my step count much smaller as the tracker does not track my steps on my bike.  Can we add a challenge for number of active minutes in a day/week?

Yes please! My coworkers and I would love to challenge each other with steps and water intake!

Check out VirginPulse. It converts activities to steps. C’mon Fitbit, how hard is this really?

When cycling I found that @ 33 miles is near to 10k steps if that helps

This is something we have been discussing quite a bit over the last few weeks as well, since we like to do the challenges- just counting steps doesn't really work that well for us, since individuals in our group follow different activities, which aren't counted under steps (swimming, cycling, weights,...). So "active minutes" for us would be a much better solution. Has there been any progress made with this?

no i don’t think the team at Fit Bit are bothered.

Agreed. My family and friends would love it if goal day was more than just making our steps. It would be great if it incorporated our full dashboard goals somehow. Who can get to green first!

I have seen no progress on 'active minutes' challenges. Seems Fitbit has a
million requests to do many things but does none of them 😞

yeah it’s a shame, i’ve stopped wearing my fitbit now tbh as it annoys me when i lose the steps challenges (often coming last!) but i do very much work out everyday.

come of fitbit pay attention to your customers! you are losing them!

I have since purchased an eliptical which is synced to ifit. I may switch over to Ifit step tracker since Fitbit just doesnt seem to keep up with the times!

I like the idea of GPS personalised or customized routes set up as challanges we can add friends to. It opens up options for hikes, marathons, and even cycling races. We can tag local markers in using our phones.

I’m really on the fence about Fitbit moving forward when compared with devices like the Apple Watch 4.  Apple’s making some nice challenges for folks with their “rings” concept and I am starting to think there is more to focus on than simply steps.

Part of me really wants to pick up a new Charge 3, but I’m concerned about fitbits lack of adding anything but steps for challenges.

Does anyone else agree?

Hey @rcooked! I merged your idea into this suggestion. Thank you for sharing your feature suggestion with the Community.

Merge it all you want. The idea was suggested well over a year ago. Fitbit seem intent on ignoring the suggestion.

It’s really surprising to me.  I want to like Fitbit over AppleWatch, but Apple is starting to out innovate FitBit on the fitness aspect with challenges now given their rings aspect and the options it provides.

Up until Watch OS 5 from Apple, I thought Fitbits secret sauce was the software.  However, it hasn’t been modified for anything other than steps and that’s crazy.

I’m so close to pulling the trigger on a new Apple Watch - cancelled my preorder charge 3 to sit back and wait.

Not sure what is going on, but imagine what Fitbit could do if th software got a revamp and the great devices at these price points.

Given that this feature is coming to Apple Watches in a few weeks with the Watch OS5 update I'd imagine Fitbit has this on their radar.

I'd really like to see the software/app/community improve to stay competitive. I've been using Fitbit since 2012, alongside an Apple Watch, Garmin, or Polar device. I'd hate to give up the spot on my right wrist to a competitor who is more on the ball.

Fitbit has been actively ignoring these suggestions for YEARS. 😞

Why can’t Fitbit figure out how to convert activities to steps? Figure it out, hire new programmers, something. I’m rethinking this “health” gadget is not innovative enough, its stagnant!

My husband and I walk the same distance every morning, but because of our height and stride difference, I usually get 1 to 2k more "steps" in than him on the same course. This is true of another couple we "challenge" where he's shorter than my husband and his wife is shorter than me. It would be nice to be able to change the challenges to track miles instead of steps and/or show both.

Yes, more challenges for my friends and I!

1. Please add ”cycling miles!”

2. Please add "longest time in cardio/peak HR zone!”

Also add more customization to social media photo overlays with statistics that I want to share.

Hope you see this comment! Thanks!
