Dynamic retrieval and display of all daily nutrition values

Here is an opportunity for Fitbit project managers and developers to provide a greatly needed service to their device users, many of which would appreciate Fitbit’s assistance in managing their health.

Many of the users of Fitbit devices have real health issues and have to monitor different elements of their nutritional intake throughout the day. Other users have also voiced their desire to have a dynamically viewable recap of just where they stand at any point in the day.

Individuals with heart issues quite often need to be aware of their sodium intake or risk heart failure. And if truth be told, everyone else should be a little more aware of their sodium intake, as well.

Diabetics and pre-Diabetics need to keep abreast of their sugar intake throughout the day, not just at the day end. And for anyone wanting to lose a little, or even a lot, of weight should be watching their sugar intake, because what sugar cannot be used by muscles gets stored as fat.

Many people are literally afraid to eat out with friends or family sometimes because they are not positive about their current daily intake of a particular nutrient. Many spur-of-the-moment social opportunities are lost because they don’t know their current sodium or sugar totals for the day.

Why not, from the food log page of the Fitbit app have the Macronutrients icon be a touchable hotspot that would display this:

Daily Totals.png

The data in the graphic represents my actual intake on 1/19/2018 with the exception of vitamin and other base elements, but all of the information is available for quick retrieval from the Fitbit servers. And to quote Fitbit, “Your data belongs to you!”

I personally would be quite happy if that is all that was done, and as a first release it would be great. But it would be totally feasible to incorporate other requests for allowing the entry of target values for many of the nutrients shown in the label above. Values such as Calories, Carbs, Protein and Sodium. A new column next to “% Daily Value” called “Your Target” or just “Target” could be added.

Thank you Fitbit for having the Custom Foods creation capability that allowed be to create a food that actually represents my booked food totals for 1/19/2018.

As a female it's even more important that we get enough calcium. It would be wonderful to be able to track calcium in addition to macros or the option to make it customizable as to what you'd like tracked OR based on your gender and age and stage in life etc.

Please, please, please add ASAP. Especially sugar I think is a must and for me the biggest miss in the app at the moment. Right now I use another food tracking app just to track my sugar intake. If the fitbit app would implement this it would finally become my one and only goto app for everything fitness, food & health tracking.

PLEASE! I want to be able to see my carbs/fat/protein in GRAMS on the app! I don't see why this is so hard to do!

Diabetic here. Literally why our family got these. Seems like a pretty basic health matter. Come on fit bit. Get it together.

Add a panel to the dash board to track daily supplements. It would be great to keep track of how long i take my supplements, like fish oil, biotin, even fat burner.

I know others have mentioned this but a micronutrient tracker is eesential! In todays society with packaged foor, being aware of our sodium levels is important. On top of that it would be nice to see if we are lacking any vitamins to supplement effectively. I would be willing to pay for this as a premium feature because essentially it would save money on vitamin supplements i may be purchsing unnecessarily.

It would be nice to see sugar included in the nutritional information display on foods consumed for the day. As a diabetic, sugar intake is important.

I voted for this. I am seeing that most of the ideas that get upvoted are stuff that’s unnecessary. The really important stuff, no one cares about. I’d like the app to work correctly before adding new features. This isn’t even an added feature. It’s what I already expected the app to do. It should total all the important things like salt, sugar, cholesterol, saturated fat and fiber. Another thing I wish they’d fix: If you double a serving of something, it only calculated one serving of nutrients and macros. So if you eat 2 servings, add it twice as one serving to get the correct amounts. I haven’t figured out how to add a half serving of anything and get the correct macros. I only eat 1 tbls of peanut butter (half a serving) and that’s 3.5 grams of fat, but it counts it as 7 grams.

Have you contacted support about the serving amounts? I am able to add multiple servings as well as partial servings and the tool adjusts nutrition values accordingly in both the desktop and android tools.

Yes, I could really use this sort of tracking update... especially to track sugar!

Hi @therealjan, this is a good idea. Thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

I know you're showing carbs, fat, and protein for macro nutrients, but I can assure you many women would love to see their grams and percent of daily recommended fiber as well. The fiber content is included in the nutritional information in the database, so it would not be that difficult to add.

Hi @SunsetRunner, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about adding fiber to the calories log on the Fitbit app. This feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here to keep this board organized.

I'm really impressed with and am loving my Fitbit system.

As I've been getting familiar with it, this was one of the things I was mildly disappointed with. I would be pleased to see other things many monitor (like fiber, sodium, and sugar) rolled up for us, as calories and macros are being rolled up for us according to portion size.

I as well would like to be able to see all the nutritional information for logged foods so I can see how much of each nutrient I've consumed for the day. I'm assuming the nutritional values are taken from the USDA (or other) database so all the information is there. As some people have mentioned they have particular health issues and so need to monitor particular nutrients. In my case I'm interested in lowering my BP so I'd like to be able to get a running daily total for Mg, Na, Ca and K so they can be balanced correctly. If I have that information I can select which foods I should eat to maintain the correct balance for the day. I'm sure others have similar needs. So my two suggestions are, 1) to be able to pick the most important nutrients to me to display on the website log and/or the App for daily monitoring, and 2) to have a way to see ALL the nutrients/vitamins consumed over time (for example at this point I don't see how one would see their total Vitamin A intake over time).  If we could do that we would be able to spot issues like mineral deficiencies in our diet, and adjust our eating habits accordingly and/or know if we should be taking a supplement.

Fitbit:

if you’re going to encourage friends to share “things” using the app, why wouldn’t you allow us to share food items? I’ve been searching all over the “community” for a way to do this. I’ve come up with nothing. It appears there have been a lot of requests for this feature. Come on help us out!
