Increase or customize hourly activity goal from 250 steps/hour

It would be really cool to have the option to increase the reminder to move minimum count.  Currently, the reminder to move is set to 250 and I would really like the option of raising that number as my activity increases.

Well Jim, put the movie on pause, and walk around the house a few times and BAM, you have it!

Yes, if I have to consciously think about it, I can hit the goal.

I have the opposite problem.  I want to decrease the goal to something reachable.  Yes, I want to be more active, but as a cubicle dweller in a small office, the only way I'd consistently get 250 steps is to take up smoking.

The bottom line is that I want my goals to be MY goals, not something imposed on me from software.

Dynamic hourly goals will address that. It should all be based on what you
want to achieve each day.

Please allow us to customize our steps per hour goal. This would be a great motivator for many. I have read all the comments regarding this subject and people have been asking for this feature for a few years now. When are you going to give what the people want. It can’t be that hard to just to an update to the firmware and let everyone know. That keeps happy people coming back. Please let me know if this is something you guys are willing to do soon. First of the year would be a great time to implement it.

I'm in the same boat as DroidUser42 -- I like the idea of customized movement reminders, but would definitely want the ability to either decrease the amount of steps, or just have a simple reminder to get up and stretch without a step goal at all.

I'd also like the reminder interval to be adjustable, and not necessarily just on the hour if that doesn't overly complicate things.

I would love to see this implemented. I went looking for the ability to submit a feature request just so I could recommend this one.

Hi, I originally posted the following on a new thread but it was suggested that it would be better to post it on this thread. So, here it is. Thanks!

Hello,

I have a suggestion for the Charge 3, please. I don’t know if you’ll be able to but, here it is:

Would it be possible to change the number of steps in the hourly reminders? Currently it’s 250 steps minimum but I would like to increase the minimum as my daily goal increases. Here’s why… I like to divide the number of steps I want to do among the hours that I want/plan to be active so that the goal is more manageable and also, I won’t have to be surprised at the end of the day to see I still have a lot of steps to do and then rush to make my goal.

For example, if I wanted to make sure I was active for 8 hours a day and my step goal was 2000 then, 250 steps x 8 hours would equal 2000 steps for the day. But, if my goal was 10,000 then I should strive to do 1,250 per hour.

I feel this would also help with increasing my daily goal gradually. Is it possible to add this option to the current Charge 3 say, through an update? I hope so. Thank you ☺️

as others have said, this is a really great idea that I hope to see implemented soon for the Charge 2!! a custom reminder to move goal and also being able to set the time for the reminder to go off, both of these options would be extremely useful

I’d like the option to increase the reminder to move steps from the preset 250. I was hoping to set it for an hourly goal to reach my daily goal divided between the active number of hours I indicated.

I just got a Versa for Christmas. The first thing I googled is how to change the hourly alert from the standard 250 steps.

I love the idea of an hourly nudge to reach my goal, but unfortunately it is more than 250. After reading through all the replies I agree that the nest way forward would be to implement a dynamic goal that scales--there are clockfaces that have this already, why can't this be implemented?

I'm honestly surprised that this has been an open issue for more than 2 years. This seems like a super standard feature that should have been ironed out a while ago. I can't understand the reluctance on the part of FitBit to implement this feature. So that's why I'm commenting on this thread.

This is a great idea for a feature and should be implemented so that people can use the tactile reminder in a method that suits them.

Hi. Everyone. I think I started this whole conversation by suggesting that we should set our goal of a minimum of 250 steps per hour based on a 24-hour day. That is, I want to be able to have those minimum steps per hour in 14 hours per day. But the way the program is configured, I have to do it in each and every hour between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. I want to be able to have my 7:00 am dog walk counted, maybe a late night walk, etc.

The conversation switched to simply being able to change the hourly goal from 250 steps to something higher. For those advocating that, you miss the point. The function is there because it’s important not to bee too sedentary for long periods of time. Getting up every hour and having a short walk is important (especially if you work in an office environment)..

We all have our daily steps goal - - in my case it’s 12,500 steps per day, and I beat it almost every day - - but it’s usually achieved via two long walks with my dog and an hourly workout on an exercise bike.

The hourly step function is totally separate from the daily step goal.

Keep walking!!! And Happy Holidays.

I think there are two issues, the one you describe, but more importantly being able to set your hourly move goal. I have mobility issues so my daily step goal is very low, but increasing. I never hit the 250 goal an hour due to this. I need to be able to adjust it accordingly. Otherwise the whole reminder to move is useless.

Hi @KellyDe! That’s an interesting idea and could be useful, thanks for sharing it.  I've moved it into a similar suggestion, as the more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

Absolutely want this. Great to have a reminder to move, but to be able to adjust the goal and see our progress against that new goal would be profoundly more motivating! It would have to be a pretty simple change - surely there's more than a byte dedicated to that 250 number. Just allow us to set it to a new value!

I would also like to see the feature added to customize the goal for number of steps taken per hour. In my case, I would like to set it lower occasionally, as I have rheumatoid arthritis and am unable to walk much at times and need to ease back into any length of walking or number of steps taken. However, if I don't try to walk at those times, I can lose even more mobility. So the trick for me is to start at 25-50 steps per hour, then 100, and so on. BTW, when I am able to move well, I think the 250 steps/hour (and my FB Charge 2's ability to remind me and track that activity) has helped as much as some of my medications.

Columbia University just published research that shows it's vital to move every 30 minutes if we want to minimise our risk of suffering from strokes, heart disease etc. It's so easy to get absorbed in something tasty from Netflix and not notice how a whole hour has passed, so I'd really appreciate it if FitBit could build this in as an option alongside the existing hourly Reminder to Move - and make it available on all FitBit products, ideally ... but certainly on the Charge HR (I have a second generation model).

Hey @Witch23! Nice suggestion, thanks for sharing. We look forward to hearing what other community members think about having a reminder to move every thirty minutes.

I just contacted Support about this and so was redirected here.  To add on to this suggestion slightly, I would like to see the ability to set custom reminders (for example, every 20 minutes or every 30 minutes, etc.).  As someone who works a desk job who is still recovering from back issues, this would be extremely helpful!  I have an Alta HR but like the original comment, I think it should extend to all products.
