Pokemon Go and Fitbit Integration

With Pokémon Go's release, it would be great to see that Fitbit, the authority in wearable fitness trackers and the app Pokémon Go which encourages its players to walk around and discover the world using their feet, join forces for a better you. Hitting your goals and catching your beloved Pokémon, is there anything else better than that? Whenever you reach your Fitbit goal, you'll get a little in-game item for Pokémon go. Pokémon related badges will also add spice to your collection of badges. You can brag it off to your friends as a sort of badge that you and Pokémon accomplished.

I think this would be a very good move for Fitbit since they have been the forerunner in the wearable fitness trackers industry and with the popularity of Pokémon Go, what better way than 2 giants in the industry joining together. Makes sense right?

Thanks for reading.

If all this connection did was turn the fitbit into a pokemon go plus, it would save my use of the fitbit. I'm not going to use both at the same time. I really like the fitbit I just bought, and can't help but notice it has everything the pokemon go plus does. It's already on my wrist - why not open up the functionality?

Looks like I'm nowhere near alone on this!  It should actually not be super duper hard.  There are other integrations that make this stuff work well anyway, like FitRPG and the like.  It seems that it's just a matter of making sure both parties (Niantic and Fitbit) are willing to play nicely together.  Maybe I just found myself a project to hack on soon.  🙂  If I find the time (yea...right...I have pokemon to catch!)....then maybe I'll find a way to do this...

I would be happy if the only thing which was intergrated was the distance for hatching eggs.

Yes please! Even a basic connection to "count steps" towards hatching eggs would make a huge difference!

Syncing the two would be amazing. Having your fit bit steps count in the game would encourage people to walk and walk and walk to catch Pokemon, hatch eggs, and explore with friends!!

This would make me get Pokemon go, so if that helps Fitbit's case. I want all the badges. GREAT IDEA, I know this has been talked about a lot... But this is a good way of saying it!

Having my FitBit tracked steps count towards Pokemon Go Incubator distance requirements would be great.  Fitbit already calculates distance traveled based on steps, all that we need is for that information to be shared with Pokemon Go with a simple account sync.  Doesn't even have to be automatic, it could be added to a menu and users manually select to sync their FitBit account with the game, just like all of the 3rd party apps that work with FitBit do now.  Notifications, and in-game reward for reaching certain number of steps, and achievement medals would all be great too, but I think that the distance walked sync would be the most easily adapted way to integrate our FitBits with this new game that is taking the world by storm.

I can only imagine as a side effect to this FitBit tracker sales would rise significantly!  Especially if, lets say, FitBit were to secure permissions to create Pokemon themed wristbands, or a Pokemon themed wearable.  I wouldn't trade in my Surge for a Pokemon themed wearable personally, but someone with a more limited model FitBit might.

I totally agree with this idea!! Pokémon go should be included in your FitBit apps because it adds extra steps in my day since I've had it! And would make things so much easier if the apps went together!!

I would love for my steps to count towards my eggs hatching because I can't play it in the office but I do get steps during the day 🙂

It would be exciting to have kids and adults reach special goals when Fitbit integrated with Pokémon Go, that only Fitbit users can achieve, that way there would be more buy-in for more Fitbit, new software development, limited addition Pokémon Go bands, etc! It would be exciting!

So glad I found this forum. I tweeted this a few days after the app launched. I would love to see this come to fruition.

Hey there everyone,

I've a Fitbit Charge HR since September 2015 (it is awesome) and recently installed the Pokémon GO app for Android.

Pokémon then, and Pokémon GO now, is positively affecting generations and building human bonds since 1995.

ince Pokémon GO is getting so much exponential hype worldwide, would it be possible for Fitbit developers to allow a way to sync steps/distances info from Fitbit trackers (or even apps alike) with the Pokémon GO app? That would be AWESOME 🙂

did you ask Nintendo ?

they can use the Fitbit API.

that's not Fitbit's job to send data to Pokemon GO.

that's Pokemon Go's job to get Fitbit data

I need this integration!! I'm obsessed with Fitbit and PoPOKEMON Go equally, but having the app open in order to have steps count towards eggs is a drain on my battery, and let's be honest, interferes with other apps on my phone. Being able to use my Fitbit step count towardPokemonON Go would make things so much easier!
