Recovery/ Injured / Sick mode or required rest

I had a nasty cold all week so of course I am only at about 50% on most goals, and it brings my average way down. I wish there was a way to hit "Pause" on your counting so you can focus on getting healthy and continue on your goals when you are better.

I would love to see this as well.  Just bought a friend's Ionic, but had been considering a Garmin because they now do fatigue recovery status with what they call Stress Tracking.  Seems that they are using that same data that Fitbit has access to, just software development is needed. I think.

I would like to see this feature too! According to Fitbit I have a high heart rate (90s in rest) and it got me a bit worried, but my GP assured me that it is normal to have an elevated heart rate due to illness. However, as I have only recently got I Fitbit, it now thinks that 90s in rest is a normal heart rate for me. Would be a really nice option if you could somehow let the all know your ill and it doesn't count these days.

We should be able to log when injured, ill or disabled. Sometimes we require time off our feet temporarily and sometimes more permanently. Make the Fitbit more friendly for these reasons. We could log when we are off our feet so an icon can show us and our friends when this happens instead of saying were thousands of steps behind others it would simply show for instance a cross or plaster as it's not our fault. It can help us record recovery time too by slowly increasing steps again, perhaps a log showing the length of time we have taken to recover or a build up of strength over time. Another possibility is specific exercise, so someone off their feet but able to move upper body could do upper body exercise even from bed or a chair and vice versa for upper body injury. Or if we are simply not well with the flu, cold, respiratory problems, we should be able to mark this down so we can track our heart rate more closely too. There are so many options to explore with this side of things and I'm sure there are plenty of people in these positions (including myself which is more long term to do with operations to my foot, which I would love to track and record pain scores against steps etc, and build up of how long it takes me to get back to walking more each month, may not recover fully but I could challenge myself). This is of course a massive task for Fitbit which I understand, but starting with a simple injured/sickness icon and log would be hugely beneficial to so many people.

Hi @Klp87, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here.

So these suggestions have been made since early 2014, to no avail.  Anyone know any other fitness trackers with capability to illness, injury or required rest?  I will certainly be looking into competitors for this feature next time I upgrade.

I was sick today and just got out of bed to use the bathroom.  I am wishing there was a way to record that I was sick today on my fitbit.

I would actually love to track when I get sick, similar to the menstrual cycle tracking. I realize there are many factors involved with getting a cold, but I would like the ability to correlate other tracked parameters with that sickness.  For example, before the onset of a cold, I was consistently getting less than 5 hours of sleep a night (for me, a normal amount of sleep is 6 to 7 hours).  I would also like to compare differences in heart rate and steps while sick versus healthy.

I love that idea. It would be helpful to see how things like lack of sleep
lead to illness.

Fitbit should provide a recovery score calculated by sleep and other things that affect an athletes recovery from the stresses of the previous day. This would be very beneficial for college and pro athletes that would like to understand better how well they are recovering and how ready they are to perform.

It would be fantastic if you can add a pause and resume feature for all of us using the Fitbit to track steps after surgery. If I could put the device on in the morning, pause it when I switch to crutches or scooter, then resume when I walk; then my doctor and I would know exactly how many steps I’ve taken on my feet and I can comply with my strict recovery plan. Right now I have to remember to take the Fitbit off, then crutch back to where I left it and put it back on several times a day. I think this would be a tremendous selling point for post-op patients!

I wish Fitbit had a sickness recovery setting where, once checked, would pause all the activity suggestions and would help remind people to rest, stay hydrate, etc.

For example, instead for step count reminders at 10-till-the-hour, perhaps a reminder to drink fluids and/or encouragement to get more sleep or if the step count/activity has been high, Fitbit reminds you to rest for x amount of time.

Similar to the Women's Health feature, the sickness setting could have multiple illnesses to choose from, such as, "Cold", "Flu", "Surgery Recovery", etc. And each option could be a little more specific to aid in recovery. It could offer symptoms to be entered for each day: "Congested", "Cough: wet/dry", "Wheezing", "Fever", "Nausea", etc.

I would love to have a setting that would pause the activity encouragement when I am sick and that stops the (much needed) inactivity from counting against me. Everyone gets sick and it sucks, and the reminders to be active, etc., is discouraging when you can't/shouldn't and especially when it lowers my stats by the time I am better and able to be active again. Taking my watch off is similar, it still tells me how I are doing, or not doing, in the app/weekly reports, etc.

Hi @Akmmba! Great suggestion, thanks for sharing. I've moved it into a similar request. Hopefully we will have support from other users since more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains.

We've been asking for this for 5 years and two months now. Dozens of people have chimed in, many with thoughtful reasons and explanations. Does it matter what we say here? I'd love to hear from Fitbit either "We're working on it and hope to have this feature in place by _____" or "Nah, we don't care."

Why is this not an option yet? This suggestion has been going on for years. I recently sprained my knee in February and am still recovering, I would love to be able to have that taken into account for my stats, goals, and to track recovery.

I use my Fitbit almost daily....unless I am sick or injured.  In the track/log exercise screen....id like to add 'illness' and 'injury'...then in the dashboard calendar screen, these days would come up a different color.  In this way, I can better understand why some goals weren't attained on some weeks.  I believe providing this feature would continue the users routine of going into the app even on days they are injured or sick

I think an injury mode would be awesome. If you select injury mode there could be basic suggestions of how to manage the injury. I.e reminders to keep it elevated,  time for ice to be applied, reminders to move within your ability to avoid stiffness, etc. I recently twisted my ankle and it's upsetting to see all of the "missed steps" so I think an injury mode would help to track why I had so little activity when I am looking at my data in the future.

I fractured my tibia at the ankle in a road bike crash. If you want pictures, search on Pilon Fracture. In a nutshell, this means first I have stabilizing surgery to get al the pieces where they should be (more or less) and once the soft tissue has healed a little, I have the permanent surgery with screws and plates.

So right now I need a couple of reminders: move (and stop feeling sorry for yourself) every N minutes and its time to take the pain killers. Feels like a couple of apps that could be added for my Inspire HR.

Stepping Up

I have been using my FitBit since March, and I love it! It's extremely helpful being accountable to myself to track when I work hard and I see the results...or when I have been cheating & overeating and I suffer the consequences.

I have a medical condition that causes me to fall frequently (noting the falls in a separate app) . Three days ago, I tumbled down a hill backwards, wearing a backpack that was too heavy, landing with my legs bent looking like chicken wings. I injured the meniscus in both knees, but more on the right side, my dominant side.

**I wish there was a feature in the FitBit app where I could document my injuries & the required rehabilitation on my Dashboard**. This knee injury is going to set me back 2-4 weeks AFTER losing 12 pounds in 6 weeks through accomplishing daily personal challenges, improved my eating habits, and sleeping on a normal schedule. 🙄

Using my FitBit, I can quantify the positive improvements I've made in my life, or chart the epic fails. I want to also **document the impact this injury will have on my health during the rehabilitation phase**.

Many FitBit users suffer injuries now and again. I don't want to stop tracking my inputs & outputs and break the habits I have worked so hard to establish, even with the required modifications from this fall.

Are there any other FitBit users out there that feel adding an "Injury & Rehabilitation" chart to your Dashboard would be an adventageous tool for tracking those "bumps in the road" when you cannot maintain your health & wellness regimine?

Thank you for your time and consideration.
