Track Cycling on Mobile App with GPS

What would be a great addition to the mobile app would be the ability to track cycling as well as the run, walk, hike options.

Not an app it is a feature enhancement for the Surge. Just update your
device.

I'd like to add my voice to the others requesting that cycling be supported by FitBit devices. I have just bought a Surge, and while I appreciate the hiking, walking, and indoor gym exercises that have presets, I do not understand why cycling is not one of them. With the built-in GPS, there is no reason that the device cannot support cycling as an activity. I hope your dev team will give this consideration. Thanks.

Update your Surge and you will be granted what you seek.

Thanks Fitbit for including "Bike" in the exercise options. I have updated my Surge and will try out the new option soon.

They only just released the new version with cycling here in Australia. I have updated my surge and tried cycling with it & it seems to work, finally this thing does what it always should have !!!! Has anyone tested its acuracy with a proper GPS unit?

Will there be a bicycling option in the Tracking Exercises pick list on Charge HR? It would be nice to have that as a choice along with walk, run, or hike.

The Exercise option should allow you to choose cycling for those who ride bikes on the road and down trails. He GPS and mapping is very motivational and would be great for cycling. You could also great badges for extra in entice as it tracks the milage over time.

Yes add. This would be so helpful when biking down the trails. And motivational.

All it needs is one more entry on the drop-down on the log-something-via-GPS screen, this is not a complicated thing to code.

I use map my ride.  I have found this roundabout way of linking map my ride to my fitbit.  I have both linked to My Fitness Pal.  However, I would like to use my fitbit when cycling.  The calories from fitbit vs the calories from map my ride were completely different.  Fitbit says I burned 972 calories, map my ride says 1,510.  I've been using map my ride for years.  Why can't I just go into my fitbit log and EDIT what it recorded?  It's obviously wrong since it doesn't understand cycling.  Help.  I love this thing but it's kind of making me mad since I cycle 3-4 times per week.

How do you know map my ride is accurate??? Fitbit is using GPS + heart
rate. Just because you've been using mapmyride for years doesn't make it
fool proof.

I have the fitbit HR... it doesn't have GPS.  I used a Polar heartrate belt and watch along with Map My Ride.  Fitbit has no idea what kind of terrain I am cycling, unlike Map My Ride that uses GPS.  I would like to see FitBit eventually allow one of two things; either sync with Map My Ride, or allow me to edit the data from my laptop or app when I'm done.

Surge with the new cycling option is not acurate, the distance it measures is not anywhere near what distance I cover on the bike.

This thread should be closed, Fitbit have started a new one with the release of the update which has cycling.

One of the reasins I went with the surge was for the Gps with cycling, Very disappointed to see if does not exist. I thought it would since spinning is an exercise option. Would be nice to have an update with this included.

Could the moderator of this thread please differentiate between separate Fitbit devices.

We know the Fitbit Surge now has cycling as an option...... a vast number of the requests here are for the Fitbit Charge HR to support cycling.

Is this still being considered with 100's of votes?

A simple extra drop-down choice on the Track Exercise app would suffice. At least this would eliminate all my "Bikes" being grouped as "Hikes".

I am only interested in cycling tracking for the FITBIT CHARGE HR. Not the
SURGE.

How is your idea for tracking cycling on the Charge HR when it does not have an onboard GPS?

ramsheep1

FitBit never said that would be a problem.

The Charge HR doesn't need GPS @jorang, just like it doesn't need it for running, walking, or hiking. It uses the GPS from your paired cellphone.

The feature request at "Track Exercise - Cycling" has effectively been closed by the moderator by the tag "Implemented".

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Requests/Track-Exercise-cycling/idc-p/763510#M19639

There were hundreds of votes there by Charge HR users but the "Implemented" tag is only relevant for the Surge.

Please consider the votes Charge HR users expressed on that thread for the cycling option to be added to the pick list.
