Trade in/Upgrade Program

I've been a fitbit user for a little over a year now, receiving one as a gift last Christmas. Now seeing how my flex is so behind the times, I would like to upgrade to one of the HR ones. However, spending another 130-150 is very difficult. Wanting Fitbit to offer an upgrade or trade in program to allow for this to be more affordable.

I just bought a Versa2 mainly because I liked the new color. I thought I would be able to switch between my old Versa and the new one, just like switching watches. My old Versa is only 3 months old. If I had known you couldn't just switch watches, I would have never purchased the new one. It would be great if we could change easily.

Hi @Criscb, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about having the option to switch or upgrade from an old device to a new one, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is currently marked as "Under Consideration". So great to see that an exchange program is under consideration and hope that this post is going to Fitbit.  With that in mind, I'm sure (hopefully) that Fitbit is working on the mechanics for such a program.  If I may, I'd like to add my 2 cents on what the program should look like.  Obviously there needs to be some criteria for evaluation and system to remunerate the watches that are coming in for exchange to another higher grade, or new addition to your vast lineup.

So here we go.

Watches would be assessed by returning owners as either excellent, good, fair, or poor.  I would suggest a definition of each item .... Age of the device should be a must. Old watches may not qualify for the program.  You determine what is "old".  Moving forward, eg good = all software working well, but watch face is scratched or defaced in some way.  or  fair = exterior watch face is perfect, but only one or two software items (maybe like screen wake feature or weather) not working properly.  You (Fitbit) make these specifications for customers to see what fits their issue, whatever they may be.  At that point a $ figure or % is also posted with the definition which would be determined by Fitbit and the new watch customer desires.

The set criteria will eliminate problems with customer expectations on the value (or not) of the returning device.  Your internal folks would match that explanation with what they are actually seeing on return and confirm value with an email to your customer so that no gray area exists between Fitbit and client.  Having everyone in the boat at that time, a deduction is made for the new item and processed for shipping.  You do not want to inflate your cost on a program like this, but competitively, you need to consider the possibly of lost business over happy customers. Often difficult to measure and strike the right balance. A word on returns and shipping.

Shipping is another costly item depending on the popularity of the program.  Carriers like UPS as an example, have the ability to work with large clients (which I think Fitbit should be) to help defray the published rates of return and re-shipping items as long as there is new business in the mix for them.  Whoever is your existing carrier should be receptive to a program like that if UPS specifically is not your go to carrier.  A drawback with any carrier is that your product is light,  undercutting the profitability and inflating the carriers expense.  The PO may be a better fit as most of their volume tends to be lighter.

A new department for refurbished items for reduced sale may be a new possible revenue stream to offset some of your cost on this program.

Hope this in some way helps to move the concept forward as we all are anxious for the program to move to reality.

For me, I rather have the ability to have more than 1 watch. The first
Versa I bought was black. The new one is rose gold. I'd love to have a
silver one. I bought my second one thinking I could switch between the 2. I
really wasnt looking for an upgrade since my original Versa was only 3
months old. I would gladly buy a silver frame so that I could switch
between the three. That's what I'm hoping for. That software will allow for
that soon. Hint, hint you could sell more.

I just want to add another voice to this.  I've been a Fitbit customer and loyalist for almost 10 years, but for the first time am considering switching to something else.  I currently have a Versa that is less than two months past the warranty end date (of course), and am having serious battery issues with it (its not even lasting 48 hours).  After contacting support and learning I was outside of the warranty for my device, I was relieved and pleasantly surprised to find out I was being offered a discount to purchase a new device.

However, the discount doesn't apply to the newest devices (Versa 2), and the Versa Lite version would be a serious downgrade in terms of functionality from the Versa.  As it is, I'm stuck with a device who's battery performance is terrible and frustrating, with no way to get a replacement device with the same functionality without paying 100% out of pocket for the new Versa 2. The discount I was offered doesn't do anything to rectify this.

As a long time customer who has purchased MANY devices over the last decade, I find this really frustrating and disappointing.  An upgrade program, or even SOME sort of discount, for people who have purchased devices within the last 2 years would alleviate situations like mine - and a lot of frustration.

My comment about havng the ability to buy several units and switch
regularly was moved with a thread about an upgrade program. One doesn't
have to do with the other. I wish fitbit would separate them, do we can
see if others would want the fitbit software to allow for that.

One point I would like to make: As you roll out new models, more sophisticated products, FitBit should have a community upgrade plan where I could turn in my ICONIC and get a price break on the new equipment. The used equipment you can donate and you keep people like me “IN” the Fitbit community. I was actually thinking of getting an iPhone watch if there was no in-community program in Fitbit.

It's been suggested before, but so far Fitbit hasn't said this would become reality.

That was never my intention. I have already purchased a new V2 but I
purchased it thinking I could switch between my 2 Versas . My point was to
change the software to allow for device switching. My watches are 2
different colors so having the ability to switch would gave been great. Now
it's a waist. My old Versa was only 3 months old. I would never have
purchased the new one if I new I couldn't go back and forth between units.
Also if I could, I gladly purchase a 3rd in a different color

You do realize you can buy bands in all colors and materials on Amazon that work with fitbit without purchasing a device....

Yes, my fingers went raw trying to change the band on my first versa. But I
have a black versa and a rose gold one. I'd like a silver one. People see
the face, the band not so much

Fitbit should have a trade in program so customers can get newer devices at a discount.

I provided my original input regrading trade-in over a year ago. Everyone
who’s has commented on my original post has received an “under
consideration.” I have yet to see anything positive come from my message
to Fitbit executives as suggested by a representative. It’s unfair for me
not to receive any response from Fitbit since I posted my original comment!

Oh yes, I agree. I’m definitely getting a Charge 3 someday, even though my Charge 2 still works.

I have a Versa 2 and getting 7 days of usage per charge. I turn on bluetooth once a day to sync. This is a substantial improvement over Versa and makes a lot of difference for people that is always going on short trips. No charger to bring when your trip is less than a week. Why doesn't fitbit advertise this ?

Fitbit should provide discounted upgrade from Versa or Versa Lite to Versa 2
