I'm looking for a completely waterproof tracker with all of the features (sleep, heart rate, steps, stairs, miles, calories, reminder to move, phone alerts, clock with date, etc) all in one. When?? Please make this your next release!!!!!
So it's been over 3 years now with a handful of new products all being released and yet they still are not water resistant. Now, you can argue that the altimeter is the reason but you're seeing Garmin and other brands with altimeters and the ability to track your elevation and still allow swimming.
My biggest complaint and largest "what were they thinking" moment has to be the release of the new Alta. It is in essense the perfect tracker for everyday use, non-super athletic people who just want to know how they're doing day to day. But hey, what do you know, the product that has 0 ability to track your elevation; read no altimeter, is not water resistant!!!!!!! WHY? I'm not asking for a dedicated swimming tracker, but just the ability to shower with the Alta on and not have to fear it breaking. To be able to wear it in the pool or the ocean when you're hanging out with friends. You, Fitbit, had no excuse not to implement this in a brand new product that was supposed to be stylish and worn everyday, all day.
Also, what is this you should take your fitbit off and give your skin time to dry. What kind of silicon are you using in your bands? I've been wearing the same Timex Ironman watch for nearly 3 years straight. Sweat, shower, and everything in between. Not a single problem.
Yes please! I agree! A waterproof Blaze called the "BLAZE ACTIVE"! I had the nike fir band and it was Awesome also, that was a unique experience not having to take it off to shower or when I sweat heavily!! When it is released, please let me the first to try it! Thank you Fitbit for you're AWESOME Products!
I am the biggest FitBit fan out there, but I think theres's a big miss by not having more waterproof options. Maybe a case that could put on during swimming? Or a new tracker that does all the same stuff as the newer trackers but can be in the pool.
Waterfi offers a waterproofing service on Fitbits for $99. I mailed my new Fitbit Alta and in less than two weeks I'm swimming & showering with my Fitbit Alta and tracking into Weightwatchers points. With any luck Fitbit will sell waterproofed trackers.
For many activities, your heart rate can be monitored despite the activity not being running, the obvious ideal exercise to be paired with a fitibit. However, you must remove your fitbit to swim. I would like to be able to log my avg heart rate from swimming. I often feel like it sort of guesses based on my total distance and total time. However, as a lap swimmer, many of my workouts involve higher intensity sections followed by some rest. This results in a higher heart rate and therefore calorie count than what the fitbit seems to suggest.
For the people that have since moved on from fitbit and purchased the samsung gear fit 2 or a garmin how is the customer service if the product breaks etc? Im nervous about garmin since I've researched and heard that they are iffy about standing behind the products therefore I am looking into samsung now...anyone have personal experience with these two? I wish fitbit would make this easy and just waterproof their products:(
@shannonmaria and Kea - if you look at this thread, it started in 2013 asking Fitbit to make a waterproof version. We are halfway through 2016 and still no response. I had the same issues as all of you and moved to the new Garmin Vivoactive HR when it came out. It does EVERYTHING that Surge and Blaze do AND its waterproof. I've now showered with it, swam with it and wear it every day and no problems.
I too had friends with a Fitbit and it was fun to do challenges and compete with each other but Garmin has the same feature and I believe more and more people will be moving over to Garmin because they want an activity tracker that is not water phobic!
I've just bought a garmin for swimming, have got a charge hR which I'm selling, but have a Fitbit one which I'm keeping and can still use discreetly with garmin and keep up the challenges with friends.
Must be waterproof! I got a surge as a gift. I love it. But.. When time comes, which will be soon. I cannot purchase one that's not waterproof, my lifestyle won't allow it.
I would love a water proof fit bit. I am terrified of breaking my new Charge HR because I am always around water! It is a pain to have to take it off everytime I wash my hands, wash the dishes, go swimming, or take a shower! I am a competitive swimmer and swim every morning. It is a shame that the fit bit can't track my activity in the pool every morning. Soon I will start my triathlon training, which will mean I have more activity that won't be recorded. I'm sure there are many other swimmers out there that feel the same. I feel like I may have to switch over to Garmin if Fit Bit isn't able to fit all of my needs with a waterproof/water resistant product. I would much rather have a waterproof feature than an altimeter.
Please please please create a waterproof Fitbit. If alta was waterproof I'd buy one with no hesitation. Most of my excersize is swimming so right now it's useless for me for working out. I love the app, I love the calorie counter, sleep tracker, step counter, everything! But it would be perfect if it was waterproof!
I agree, trackers should be waterproof, even if, like myself, you don't swim, you still run the risk of water damage by simple things like washing dishes or walking/running etc. in the rain, bathing and showering also means taking the tracker off, activity cannot be logged, it's not as if you're not active whilst washing or that your heart stops beating. All the features it has now make it stand out from the rest, waterproofing and self-charging would make it unbeatable in a flooded market
Just an update to the move to Garmin vivosmart HR: Due to health reasons I was only able to do "pool walking" for my exercise and wanted to track my steps in the pool. I found an article from CNET saying that the Garmin vivosmart HR was better than the fitbit Charge HR so I purchased the Garmin. Well I abandonded my fitbit Charge HR and starting using the Garmin vivosmart HR and all was well with the vivosmart HR being waterproof when getting wet showering and washing dishes. THEN I ditched my crutches and wanted to resume the pool walking and found that steps were tracked when on the pool deck but NOT when I was walking in the pool. I was confused and started my search to see if this was a "glitch" with my vivosmart HR. I couldn't find ANY technotes saying the vivosmart HR would track steps in the pool so I called Gramin Tech Support. I was told that the steps in the pool would not be tracked as the vivosmart HR SHUTS off the tracking when you get into the pool. I am SO DISAPPOINTED that this tracker doesn't work as I expected. I do like the fact that I can shower and not ruin my vivosmart HR tracker so I will continue to wear the vivosmart HR while I continue my search for a tracker that will track ALL MY STEPS in and out of the water.
@FL granny - I have the Garmin Vivoactive HR and it has a swim setting and tracks activity in the pool. The VivoACTIVE HR is their newest tracker - just came out in May. Maybe you can exchange the one you have for the VivoACTIVE HR?@FL granny - I have the Garmin Vivoactive HR and it has a swim setting and tracks activity in the pool. I have to swim due to an injury. Please Fitbit can you waterproof the Charge HR that also counts swimming as a workout. I miss my Charge HR and i get so frustrated with the Garmin.
The garmin vivosmart HR large would fit you beautifully. When I upgraded my Fitbit to the vivosmart I bought large as assumed it would be the same sizing as Fitbit but it's not. The vivosmart large is huge has 20 notches and I'm only on 8 (I should have bought the medium)
Patiently waiting for the day when fitbits are waterproof. I first had the Flex and I never took it off. However the flex doesn't do half as much as what other fitbits do. I know have the Alta and I love it. I would love it more if it were waterproof. It's summer. I have to take it off when I go in the pool. Then because it's not in motion, it thinks I'm sleeping. Waterproof Fitbits need to happen soon!
