The only benefit I have found from cleaning is that the holes are clean. Phantom stairs remain.
We live in in a 2 floors house so definitely we go up and down few times a day (let's say 10).
This is the recording in the past week by my wife's Sense.
The average per day is 91! Yesterday it was 125 and today it's already 15 (she never went upstairs and she is at home, it's 10 am here)
Now let's look at the record for the last year.
To me it seems quite clear that the culprit of the wrong reading is a firmware update and I'm quite puzzled that the developers can't provide a fix in short time (short time? we are speaking nearly one year!!)
Anyway for information the average is 64 floors per day!!
Those text instructions wasn't accepted by fitbit forum text control on my first post:
That's way I was very frustrated to write here.
If you have a method to send it to you, tell me. It's not big thing, you have to soften what's inside the 2 oval holes, and use a soft clean paint brush.
Best AnswerIt’s been quite a few months and still counting too many floors. Believe me when I say my sense did not do this for the first couple of years. I don’t walk that many inclines. I live in a one story condo. Seems this started happening to a lot of people after an update.
Hello Lizzy, I'm having this issue of too many floors. I should have maybe 10 today. I have 71. This has been going on for about a month, maybe longer. I tried a restart about a week ago. Did not help. What can I do? Please advise. Thanks, Patrick

This issue has been going on now for several years with no response from support whatsoever.

Best AnswerMy Fitbit Sense has been logging in the wrong number of floors as well. It has only happened since I updated to the new OS. Today I woke up and my Fitbit said I climbed 15 flights of stairs while I was sleeping and it was on the charger.
I hope they are working on this issue and will be coming out with another update in the near future that will correct this problem.
Best AnswerAfter counting properly for many months my Sense started counting too many floors immediately after a firmware update. I later bought a new Sense and it counted the floors correctly until Immediately following another firmware update after which it just stopped counting floors for a time and now it randomly counts between 1 to 15 floors a day whether I walk them or not…I’m terrified every time they put out another firmware update.

I highly doubt it. This "bug" has been going on for well over a year with no fixes or word from Fitbit about the issue.
My Fitbit sense is tracking upwards of 200 floors each day when I’m definitely not experiencing any elevation change. I play soccer and after practice on my flat soccer field it says I’ve walked 80-120 floors. This has been happening since I updated my sense and restarting it does not change anything.
Hi
I am having the exact same issue - I am in the UK and walking around a city gave me 330 floors - I then walked up Snowdon ( a mountain that is 1000 feet incline) and the floors clocked was less than walking around town!
this happens all the time - my partner has my old charge 2 and when we go out we compare the 2 and he clocks less than 2/3rd of the floors my sense says I have done
This must surely be a bigger issue than humidity or the odd every day task
Please can this be looked into - thanks

I must say that I've been using the Google Pixel Watch for the last two weeks and the inaccurate floor count does not exist on it. During my last month on my Sense I was getting anywhere from 315 floors to 567 floors per week, yet I live on a single-floor house and work on the 3rd floor. While I do take the stairs at work, it's not like I'm constantly taking them during my 12-hour shift. During my two weeks with the Pixel Watch I've clocked a much more accurate 37 and 34 steps for the week.
I have had my Sense (1st gen) for a year now. It always counts way too many floors. I usually have 4 or 5 when I wake each morning and I dont sleep walk. I end up with 20- 40 each day when I rarely do more than 2 or 3. Mine has been that way since day one. I have the latest software updates, I reboot my watch weekly and always the same. My floors are just a joke between my wife and I who also has a Sense which rarely ever gives her credit for a floor. Love the watch but it would be nice to have something near accurate on floor count.
They do not work. It is the last fitbit. They say they cannot fix it. I can not believe that. But they say it.
So i have to decide to give back and get my money back.
