Surge Impressions

I am new to the Fitbit products.  Recently, I purchased the Surge for my wife.  My overall impressions were OK. I didn't see anything spectacular or a feature that jumps out at me. I didn't fully play with the Surge yet but out of the box impressions were mediocre. The quality is good and durable but the settings are OK. I wish it was in color and there was a control center where you have a landing screen. Also, I wish it had WiFi.  I had some trouble trying to pair the Surge with an iPhone 5.  I had to play with both devices to get it to pair but I figured it out.

I have a few questions.  The Surge says 380 calories were burned. How is that possible if you are laying on the couch and walking up to the bedroom to go to bed?

After you connect the Surge to the computer, can you perform a back up of settngs and related stuff to the computer?

I am sure I will continue to have questions.  It would be nice if Fitbit competes with Apple in the Smartwatch category.  I see a lot of growth for Fitbit to compete with Apple but Fitbit needs to continue to release new versions of the Surge and add new features. They can redesign the Blaze or Surge and add WiFi and other features to attract consumers. I know the Surge and Watch are different products.

You're heart is beating. You are breating. Your brain continues to burn caloiries just lying there. It's called your Basal Metabolic Rate - the rate at which you burn calories just to stay alive.

When you sync your Surge (via the app or the computer), everything goes to the Fitbit server. Nothing resides on your computer, no settings, no data. It's all "out there."

Hello @pfisher12 @SunsetRunner. Welcome to the community! I appreciate your comments and feedback about the Surge tracker. All your insights are very important and Fitbit does take user's feedback very seriously, so thanks for taking the time to post.

@SunsetRunner Thank you for helping out answering @pfisher12 questions.

I love when community members have different ideas or requests for Fitbit products and since you do have other ideas for the Surge tracker, I invite you to post them on our Feature Request board. For example, you mentioned having the Surge's display in color, you can vote for this existing idea here. Feel free to find other existing ideas that might be similar to yours using the search tool.

As a friendly tip, it would be best if you could post each idea individually so it can get more votes from other users.

Any other questions or comments, let me know. Robot wink

How frequently does Fitbit release firmware updates for there products?  When an update is released, how do you perform an update on the Surge? Does the Surge or Blaze run on any kind of an OS? Does Fitbit ever release any new features for there existing products?

Thanks.

@pfisher12 I appreciate your reply. You know, there isn't a specific time for releasing a firmware update. What I know is that the main focus of a firmware update for any of the Fitbit products is to improve the tracker's performance and some of the times new features are added.

If you need to update your Surge's firmware, you can do it from your computer or your Android, iOS or Windows phone or app.

If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know.
