For the last couple of weeks I thought that my Surge is not counting steps correctly. Over the weekend I noticed that the number got stock and after about ten minutes it started counting again. I continue to see that my steps are unusually low for the distance that I normally walk. Any thoughts?

Just a note about the stride. It has nothing to do with counting steps, distance takes the step count multiplies this number by the stride to guess at the distance travelled.
A step is a step, no matter what the distance between the feet are.

@Hoafit without knowing anything about you, height, stride, speed, I would say would say 8000 steps are in the ball park.
For me at 5'6" 8000 steps would be a slightly faster than my normal walk at3.5 mph and fairley close to what I would expect, for my 4'9" neighbor 8000 steps would be 2.3 miles and yes it would be very low.. Now if I was power walking by myself then yes the count would be low.
