Can I link Microsoft Health and Fitbit?

Microsoft Health is Microsoft attempt at Google Fit.    I really want to see things like my scale integrated and fitbit integrated in general with Microsoft's solution.  It's cross platform so I would hope that even my Fitbit Aria scale and Microsoft Health could play nice together.

There are no plans at this time to integrate with Health. However, Fitbit does sync with Microsoft Health Vault. Now if Microsoft would let those two talk back and forth to each other there could be a back door to integration. I know presently Health Vault will only accept input from Fitbit, it won't provide Fitbit with any. But since the two "Health" apps are both Microsoft, maybe they will open up Health Vault a little more.

I would imagine Health Vault and Health will talk back and forth sooner or later.   I was going to get a FitBit Surge to go along with my Aria but I think I am going to get a Microsoft Band.  I would actually like to use the Microsoft Band with the Fitbit front end I am using with my Aria.  It's a very nice UI and a lot better than than what MSFT will be offering right now (diet, exercise, etc is very nice inside the Fitbit software.)

Microsoft Health is not just an app, its a new platform, and its extensible... So Microsoft Health will feed data to Health Vault.  (MS has said it will soon.) But probably not the other way around since 3rd parties can also add data to your Vault.

So MS has:

Vault - the master storage repository

Health - the analysis engine, which can collect data from multiple devices and interfaces

MSN Health & Fitness - health and fitness info content provider.  MS recently disabled the integration with Vault, and it seems certain they are soon to release the Health/Vault integration.  I expect they will remove diet and activity tracking and move that to Health.

Since Vault does not run on Azure,

You make a good point about HealthVault not running on Azure.  That's a sure bet that product will be updated and migrated (or maybe retired.)  The UI on HV is also very bad... not user friendly at all and the whole Vault versus Health strategy seems a bit convoluted...   Health needs to just integrate all the pieces of the Vault.  I get the extensibility of a platform but it seems incomplete.  HealthVault's vision of PHR and integration with EMR never seems to have come to fruition.  They tried to evolve it and change it but the reality it isn't really a viable strategy.

I do like the Band, however.  10 sensors is ridiculous... looking forward to seeing it work together (with Fitbit products) hopefully in the end because my Aria is indepensible.

Well apparently I didnt finish that sentence but you got the gist anyway. 🙂

I am very impressed with the MS Band (on paper, anyway), and the platform agnostic concepts behind Health.  I can just imagine Cortana in Windows 10 nagging me to take a walk break.  "Is that chocolate you are eating, Nicole?  Are you going to do a longer workout today, then?"

A bit disapointed that there is no import features for my Fitbit Surge. Started with MyFitnessPal then went to the MSN Health app. So I have already entered a lot of it twice and dont want to have to do it again. Just seems like a real waste that i have to start over.

Just curious is Fitbit has any plans for integration with MS Health.  I've got a MS Band 2 and would like to sync steps to Fitbit due to some friends and family challenges, etc.

I've tried connecting my MS Health account to all currently supported apps and services (MS Health Vault, LoseIt!, MFP, Runkeeper, etc.) and have then connected those services to Fitbit but nothing is coming through.

Does Fitbit allow steps to be imported from other apps or services or just "exercise" information (distance, calories, etc.)?  My experience with MFP and MapMyRun was that steps didn't come over and were not calculated after the fact based on distance or anything like that.

Thanks!  Ed

@Lenart17 Welcome to the Community! You can sync Fitbit with Health Vault by doing this procedure:

Go to your Dashboard > click on settings > sharing > scroll down and you're going to see Partners > click on Link to your HealthVault record. See the screenshot below:

Hope this helps.

@sirgader Welcome to the Community! Thanks for the troubleshoot that you've done. In this case, I highly recommend to contact Microsoft Health Vault so they can see if there's any error page.

Hope this helps.

@Benoche A warm welcome to the Community! When you have Microsoft Health linked to Fitbit, you won't see the app in the applications part. You'll see it in your sharing because it will update by itself all the information there.

Hi @SilviaFitbit,

I tried to find the list of partners on the dashboard/settings/sharing page and I don't see anything. I also looked in applications, but did not see an option to add an app.

Here's a screenshot of what I see in settings from my dashboard:

@Khavalier The integration between HealthVault and Fitbit is no longer supported. See this post here.

Ok, but now that Microsoft HealthVault support is dead, what about linking directly to the Microsoft Health platform? Any updates on that?

Now that my Microsoft Band 2 has officially died and Microsoft has gifted me a FitBit Surge, I am also very interested in getting data from my Fitbit Surge into Microsoft Health.  Is there any update on this?

I would also like to point out that this topic currently has no solution.  Could the moderator take the answerer tag off of it.  There are answers for Microsoft Healthvault, but that was not the original question.
