Withings / Nokia - Unable to authenticate Withings user.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have been trying for two days to link my wife's FitBit account with our Withings scale. Using the following link https://www.fitbit.com/weight/withings it will always result in the same error.

"Unable to authenticate Withings user. Withings server returned the following error: Unknown status code."

How do we address the account linking issue shown above?

I was able to link my account a year ago, but I recently tried to link my wife's Fitbit account with her Withings profile and it didn't work.

I've added  a screenshot below. Note: It's occurring on the FitBit page to link the Withings scale.

The integration is from the Fitbit side, so I expect fitbit to look into this issue regardless of Withings is the one at vault. Fitbit most likely pulls from Withings api, and if the api changed (and there was most likely notification regarding it), it is expected fitbit would update this on their end. Contacting Withings here is not going to help, as issue appears to be from fitbit end. I along with other people on this thread expect fitbit to look into this issue. If not, there are plenty of other fitness watches to look at that integrate fine, its time to look at other watch makers.

I contacted Withings, they said everything is working on their end.  This is a Fitbit issue, I needed to work with Fitbit to resolve this.

I tried it. It works for me to report weight to FitBit, but not body fat percentage. But at least it's one less thing I have to enter manually while this issue gets sorted out.

I hope this is fixed soon, or I'll be returning the scale and looking for a new one. Just like a few others, I bought this scale over the aria because it was supposed to work with fitbit. And the Aria does NOT get good reviews.

It's a shame that there isn't a good working scale solution. It makes me consider different brands entirely. Does anyone know of another brand that has mastered the scale and activity tracker combo?

I have further questions. How long will this be? It looks like it's already been 3 weeks with no fix.

@jwicihowski I'm sure the issue will be fixed. In any case, you can copy/sync the data from Withings to Fitbit. One possible alternative, is my desktop app WeightHub available from www.weemple.com. Initially, was developed to sync Beurer scale measurements, but then I extended the support to others brands, like Withings. Isn't free because I have to pay hosting, stores, etc.

I also just got a Withings scale specifically with the intent of using it with my Fitbit.  Will return it if this doesn't get resolved in the next week...   Hopefully it will get sorted soon.

Also have the same issue, got the scales for Christmas because it stated it worked with Fitbit. Will return if it's not fixed

My Withings scale came today. I use both IWatch and Fitbit. IWatch is all set but, as others described, I am unable to sync w Fitbit. I was so excited for the Withings to arrive and to link all this data.

@LanuzaFitbit: Please provide an update. It's been a month.

Like I and others have said, you are the one reading data from Withings, so it is incumbent upon you to investigate the issue and get it resolved. We are your customers, and we don't care whether it's you who makes a change on your side, or you convince Withings to undo any change they made that may have broken you.

Thanks,

Well, it hasn't been "solved" and is the usual Customer Support tactic to keep incident count down with quick turned around whilst ducking the entire problem altogether!

Weemple cost $17.49 from Microsoft App Store.  May be that is why the link between Fitbit and Withings Scale never get fixed.   Can someone suggest a scale that can interface well with Fitbit app?

@Marlindav I like conspiracy theories, but Weemple as nothing to do with this. 😉

It's a Fitbit problem. Nokia does not directly support this on their end, but provide an API for others to integrate.  That puts onus on Fitbit to provide the support.

Since it worked in past, I'm betting something change in the API, probably in login security, and Fitbit hasn't followed through on updating their end!

So tell Fitbit to quite counting all the bank they made over holidays and get the **ahem** interface fixed!!

Withings migrated from OAuth 1 to OAuth 2 API. And that's good for security reasons. Also Fitbit has OAuth 2. So we can't ask Withings to change back their API. They also changed the URLs of the API from Nokia to Withings.

Withings informed by e-mail, all developers that use their API, about the coming changes, starting from July. From that moment was possible to migrate to the new API. And on the middle of November, they informed all developers that didn't fully migrated their code, with more detailed technical information. On November 30, they stopped the old API, and leaved running only the new one. And I can confirm that it work properly.

Now, the point is, who is the developer of this integration? Fitbit? Withings? Other?

If is Withings, then maybe they forget to advise themselve. 😉 Or maybe this integration was forgotten during the Withings to Nokia acquisition, or during the Nokia to Withings re-acquisition.

@GrandOak Both, Withings (ex-Nokia) and Fitbit have an API on their side. To sync, are used both. Initially I thinked that the integration was owned by Fitbit, because is available from a Fitbit page. But technically the synchronization can be managed with the same result, on any of both side.
