Steps counting while not wearing the Versa.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Bought my Versa last week. Today I took a break from wearing it, kept it on the bathroom counter ALL DAY and never touched it. Somehow I magically go 10,000 steps? Again, I haven't touched it today. Any word on an update to fix this bug?

I've had steps added during periods of time I'm driving or sitting and will fix it by putting driving in as exercise. Other times if I'm sitting it will randomly say I was outdoor biking. Lots of glitches with mine!

Last night I put the Versa on the charger and left it there overnight.  This morning, I put the watch on and after arriving at work was surprised that it said I had accumulated over 10K steps for the day (May 2) when I've only had the watch on for an hour and am sure have accumulated less than 1K.  The funny thing is, when I look at the step graph, it seems to accurately depict only the few steps I have taken thus far and also the distance (0.39 mi) is accurate so not sure how it is coming up with the 10K steps.  Resetting the watch did not help.   Any ideas?

So after having my versa on charge all morning I somehow have managed to do over 15,000 steps!!!! Is there anyway to correct this? I’ve been getting so many ghost steps but today really takes the biscuit! As you can see in the picture it’s accurate on this page but saying 15,000 on the main page and on the fit bit itself!

Hello @Lynniemac and @Kriszy, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. It's nice to see you around too @geepondySmiley Happy

Thanks for reporting to me your Versa is counting steps while you're not wearing it or while it's charging. By any chance, is there a fan or anything that may have been buzzing or vibrating on the same surface that watch was placed on? If so, that might explain the extra steps recorded by it, in which case I would like to suggest you to place your Versa on a different surface without any vibrations and see if the issue persists.

In case there's nothing vibrating, I would like to suggest you to restart your Versa once again (if you have done it already) and monitor it for the next 24 hours. If the issue persists, please let me know so I can determine which steps should we take next.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, I'll be waiting for your reply.

I also am having an issue with ghost steps added. Like 17500 overnite and my Versa was in my dresser drawer with absolutely no vibrations or air movement. Have reset the Versa several times, deleted and reinstalled the app twice and the steps are still there. This is the 3rd time and I am very frustrated. Only had it a week. Really rethinking the Apple watch now.

Hello @Kimmiesue43, I hope you're doing well, thanks for joining the conversation. Thanks for taking the time to reply @LynniemacSmiley Happy

@Lynniemac, I appreciate you will try to restart your Versa, after restarting it, please let me know if you're still experiencing this issue.

@Kimmiesue43, have you experienced this issue after restarting your Versa? If so, please let me know. Now, the steps that have been recorded before restarting your Versa won't be deleted automatically, I would like to suggest you to log a driving activity to remove them (this will also remove floors and calories burned). To log a driving activity:

  1. Log into your fitbit.com dashboard.
  2. At the top of the screen click Log.
  3. Click the Activities tab.
  4. Under Log Activities, type in Driving and enter the date, duration, and start time.
  5. Click Log. Your steps, floors, and calories burned will decrease for the time period you specified.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Mine is doing the exact same thing the step graph shows only two steps of actually taken but everytime I take it off to charge it it gives me like 16000 steps I even hit the shutdown button last night and that didn't do any good. I'm returning mine. I miss my a HR

I'm still hopefully waiting for Fitbit to acknowledge this step count issue while on the charger as a platform wide problem and that they are working on it.  I've had conversations via a started trouble ticket but that has proved useless.  Twice they've told me to please return for replacement and three times now, I told them that I already returned it to Best Buy for a refund.  Each time a different support member answers and they obviously are not reading the previous replies.  They all tell me how valuable and appreciated my input is.

This weekend I'm going to draft a letter to Fitbit Corporate and explain this problem and the many threads associated with it in hopes the issue may percolate up the food chain a little bit.  I really did like the Versa and I did not experience any of the other various problems mentioned in this forum.

I just purchased a Versa and am very disappointed. I have been sitting at my desk for the past two hours and the Versa tells me that I have walked 677 steps, 0.3 miles and that I only have 294 more steps to reach my goal for this hour. I haven't moved. This is a brand new device. How is this possible? I have a Garmin Vivofit and it does not count steps unless I am actually moving. AND it is highly accurate. The Versa counts swinging your arm as a step. I tried fooling the Garmin Vivofit but no amount of arm movement in a stationary position would register as a step.

I work from home and the distance from my desk to the coffee pot is 30 steps round trip. I have had two cups of coffee. 60 steps.

This is a serious problem for a new device that is supposed to help me monitor my activity. This thing is going back unless I find an answer to this problem. A fitness tracker that is this wildly inaccurate is worthless to me. Oh, look, while typing this my step count has gone up to 725!

@MarcoGFitbit logging Driving does nothing, also even if it did that is not a solution simply a bandaid.. I don't want to not be able to take my watch off ever.. I even shut it down, same problem. I will be returning the watch.

I have this identical bug with my Versa. It counts when I charge it. I go and look at the App and he last steps I had are still correct. This is seriously annoying.

I am getting mystery steps too... woke up to 22000 this morning

Best Answer

Has anybody had their mystery step Versa replaced and the problem did not reoccur with new one?

Best Answer

I woke up to 31000 and two badges this morning after it sat on my nightstand all night.  I was hoping to jump ship from samsung but it's looking like I'll be returning the versa since there seems to be no word on when the update will happen.

Was the Versa by itself or sitting in the charger?  Most of us seem to experience that when it is sitting in the charger.

It was not in the charger at all during the night, just sitting on the nightstand.  I saw someone mention in their comment about doing all the things fitbit asked including no fan on.  I sleep with a fan blowing in my direction and it made me wonder if the fan (which was on low and a good 10 feet away) was the culprit of the mystery nighttime walkabout.  Regardless a fan should in no way cause those kind of numbers.

Best Answer

I'm very doubtful it was a fan but if you go to your fitbit dashboard and view the details of the step graph, the steps would have shown up as being present as well as some correlated distance.  In my case and thus far everyone else's that I have read, we just have the extra steps without any associated step count activity and distance traveled.

I was skeptical of the fan too but couldn't find any other reason for the error.  I know the distance didn't match the step count as in the distance seemed correct while steps came from nowhere.  I was able to get my versa to update to the current firmware by unpairing and resetting the versa and I notice my step count seemed to somewhat correct itself for today.  I still show I have the badges but we will see if the problem persists.

I installed the firmware the first day it came out and unfortunately it did not fix the problem with me.  Time will tell, if it behaves well for you several nights in a row, perhaps your problem is solved.
