@Debbie1213 Welcome! It's good that the community is growing! Were you wearing your tracker during the night or did you place it somewhere else? If you wore it then do you know if it reset after midnight? Have you logged any activities on your account (if the incorrect was entered this could have been the reason you are seeing steps for example you entered 1 am instead of 1 pm). Finally if you didn't wear your tracker then could it be that it was near a working appliance like an A/C, fan or computer. The vibrations caused by these electronics may have cause the tracker to count them as steps.
Let me know how it goes!

I was dreading this issue. Woke up this morning and it looked fine. No such luck. I'm getting phantom steps while sitting down working on my computer. When I sat down, I had 651 steps. By the time I stood up after roughly 2 hours, I was at 884 steps. There's no fan or anything of that nature nearby. I have owned and worn other Fitbit devices, so I know what I am talking about. Annoying for sure. I would like to see a fix soonest.

@Jujube289 I hope you're doing well! Yours seems to be a different issue. Remember that your Versa is a movement sensor and will translate said movement into steps. There are many instances in which you will be moving your hands but won't be necessarily walking so steps may be counted. You can wear your Versa on your non dominant hand and change the handedness on it to the same hand so it thinks it is on the Dominant hand. This change will make your Versa a little bit less sensitive to movement.
Let me know how it goes!

@Debbie1213 did you check if there was any appliance that could cause vibrations near your tracker also check the other factors mentioned in my first post. This information can help determine what it is happening.
I look forward to your reply!

My New Versa added over 4,000 steps while sitting at my desk working on the computer all morning . This is my third Fitbit and i do this every day I’ve never gotten 4000 steps just from moving my arm at my desk . I could understand a couple but not thousands ?? Also to test your theory I took it off and sat it on my desk for the afternoon and it still was randomly adding 500 steps at a time and there’s absolutely nothing vibrating that could have caused this .

@Lilly338 @Debbie1213 sorry for the delay in my response. @Lilly338 have you tried changing the settings on your Versa to see if this has any impact on the steps detected? @Debbie1213 really happy to hear that Support is replacing yours!
Keep me posted!

I am having this exact same issue. I did not have my fitbit versa in me all day today since I was doing yard work and it logged 10,000 steps. But when I go into the app itself, it’s showing only 900 or so.

Sorry but this is unacceptable. I bought this device to help with weight loss. If it clocks up ‘phantom’ steps then it over inflates the calories burned. This then suggests you can consume more calories but still be in a calorie deficit situation leading to weight loss. This morning i have tracked 21 steps by lying in bed!
I had a fitbit a yea4 ago and was sent back because it was so inaccurate. Steps counted from brushing my hair. Not good enough.

GUUUYSSS!!! I've discovered something while sitting at my desk and counting phantom steps.... I posted this on another thread with myself and bearcat44, but I think it's worth a share:
Are you a leg-bouncer? I know I am... If I'm sitting at my desk working / reading / gaming, I know for a fact that my leg is bouncing 100 MPH more often than not!!! it made me wonder if my constant leg bouncing was occasionally confusing my Versa.
I tested this while my leg was doing its usual incessant bounce... as soon as I laid my hand on my thigh or sometimes away from the steadying desk / keyboard, it started counting steps!!!!
I guess the Versa thinks I'm standing in place running!! LOL
