Early low battery warnings

I replaced a Charge HR with a Zip about a month ago.  I am happy with the Zip but I believe the battery level is unreliable.  On a fairly regular basis, I get low battery warnings and the indicator goes to red.  But if I wait awhile, the indicator again reads full.  I tap the Zip.  I sync it.  Once I opened it and put the battery in again.  I am not sure what I do to fix it but I have not had to replace the battery despite false warnings.

Am I the only one having this issue?  Is there an explanation for the apparently random warnings?

Neither of those things worked for mine.

A voltage of 1.6 or 1.95 is a dead battery. No Zip will work on those batteries.

Are you sure you didn't mean to say 2.6 or 2.95? A 2.6 volt CR2025 is a dead battery, also. A 2.95 volt "new" CR2025 is not new. A new CR2025 should read about 3.3. volts.

I order my batteries online, from Amazon, in multiples of 5. They cost about 50 cents apiece this way, and since you are going to need a new battery every 2 or 3 months, it's worth doing.

Only once I had one false warning, battery "drained" after a month (when the other times it had lasted an average of 4 months), and I contacted customer service and they told me about the pieces that are bent. I readjusted them and it worked fine.

A couple of weeks ago I had to change the battery again after three months of the last change. It was a different brand than the one I use normally (Duracell), and it was a lot cheaper, so I was not surprised when I got the notification for critical battery a week later, even when I hadn't even had my fitbit with me for a couple of days. I checked the pieces inside and they looked fine, so I thought it was just the battery that was of bad quality.

However, a week ago I went back to my usual batteries and right now I have the critical battery notification again, in fact I've lost 7000 steps and all the inside pieces are fine. What can I do? I've used it for only a year now (a year and 20 days to be precise). Is that their usual lifespan?

Actually I've just changed my battery for a brand new one (was still in the original packaging) and it turns on but the critical battery notification is still there Smiley Sad

Thanks! That's all great ideas. I did try one more battery that was still in a sealed portion of a 2 pack Eveready, and now it's working just fine. I will look into ordering batteries. I think freshness is an issue even if the battery hasn't ever been used.

I've had my zip less than a month and it says the battery needs to be replaced. Really?

Best Answer

Really. It's perfectly reasonable. Go to Amazon and buy yourself a 5 pack of Energizer CR2025 batteries, right now. It'll cost you about $3.30, and will ship free with a sufficiently sized order. That's 66 cents apiece.

The non-rechargeable batteries that are included with any electronic device are "courtesy batteries" only. They're generally not as good as a retail battery that you will buy off of the shelf, and serve only to give you a good start with the electronic device. The life of a battery also depends on whether or not you are using all-day-sync, which drains the battery much faster. And if you walk a lot, the Zip will use up its battery faster than if you don't walk as much.

Hi Everyone!

Two threads began simultaneously on Zip battery issues so I've merged them together here for better tracking.

For battery issues, @LucyAP’s post on restarting your Zip is an excellent place to start.

Happy stepping!

Have gone through two new batteries in the last three weeks...very frustrating.  This helpful answer says:  You can check  the instructions for an update by following this help article.  It doesn't link to instructions for an update...again, very frustrating.

Thanks so much for this instruction about the terminals. My zip is now up and working again after these tweaks. I'm finding my battery CR2025 lasts about six months. So happy with my zip because it's discreet, I'd hate to have to replace it with something else!
