Ionic not syncing with iOS 11

ANSWERED

It just started recently out of the blue, my ionic will not sync with the fitbit app on iPhone 7+ running the latest version of iOS 11.

Anyone else have this issue? And is there a fix or work around?

Hello @Anne33, thanks for joining the conversation, it's great to have you on board the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with me. Please note that you're currently seeing the Settings of the Today app, which is why you're only able to see Tips &Tricks and Inspiration. To check the Ionic settings, please go back to the clock face and swipe left until you find the Settings app, in here you will be able to scroll down until you find the About section, tap on it and scroll down until you find Shutdown.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome.

I am unable to get my FitBit IONIC to sync with my iPhone 8 Plus OS 12.0.1 (Firmware 3.00.00), my ionic is trying to update to OS 2.2 and it will not sync.  My phone recognizes the Fitbit but the FitBit is not returning the sync signal.  What gives?  I have restarted the FitBit several times as well as restarted my iPhone.  I have done everything short of wiping both devices and have had zero luck.  I originally chose the FitBit due to it's ease of use; but, now I'm wondering if I made a mistake by not going with the iWatch.  I have had the FitBit less than 1 year and wiping the devices does not seem like a viable option and wastes a lot of my valuable time.

I have tried most everything on this message Board.

My IOS is 11.4(15F79)

Fitbit 2.81.1(798)

I can Bluetooth to the device during setup, I get the Sync Pin, I put the Pin in, then it, displays another Pin generation, repeat, ....

Error message between pin(s) states, "There was a problem communicating with your tracker, please try again." How do we fix this....The clock is now off by 8 minutes...No way on the watch to set that manually. Useless at this point.

Same here. Nothing is working. Ionic does not respond at all.

Can anyone from Fitbit solve it??

UPDATE:

@MarcoGFitbit Can you please help?

Ionic version 27.32.12.19

Iphone 7 with iOS 12.0.1

UPDATE 2:

@MarcoGFitbit See below. I followed your instructions. I removed ionic and added back Waiting already 30 min!! Not acceptable at all.

image.jpg

UPDATE 3:

@MarcoGFitbit After around 1h ionic connected to iPhone, synced (steps only, no sleep) only once and then again does not respond. Shall I return it or will Fitbit Fox it and when? It has been 4 weeks since I upgraded from Blaze and so disappointing!

UPDATE 4:

B0B9F17C-0C11-42B0-B0BD-8442E50B245A.jpeg

It says “looking” all the time after several restarts, removals, etc.

when I go to Bluetooth setting (iPhone 7) the system says that ionic is connected.

why then does Fitbit app not sync?

@MarcoGFitbit?

FYI all, I performed the official factory reset, it worked !

Thank you fitbit phone support.

Here are the instructions I received:

"In case you are still unable to set up the watch, we want you to do a factory reset. For that:

  • On the watch go to the settings icon
  • Scroll down> Tap on about.
  • Scroll down> Factory reset > Reset"

I was able to Sync the Pin the first time.

Thank you to

"Blanca G. and the Fitbit Team"

Hello @mars515, thanks for joining the conversation, it's great to have you on board the Fitbit Community. It's great to see you too @faja23, thanks for taking the time to reply. Smiley Happy

@mars515, I appreciate you have let us know you've contacted our Support Team and after performing a factory reset on your Ionic everything seems to be working as intended. I'm very glad.

@faja23, thanks for coming back and reply to me with some screenshots and the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. Judging by the screenshots you were able to set up your Ionic but are having trouble syncing it. Now, as you mentioned you're able to see it in the Bluetooth Settings on your phone, my best recommendation would be enabling All-day Sync, this will maintain the Bluetooth link between the Ionic and your phone and make easier to sync your Ionic as it will sync in the background as long as the Fitbit app remains open. Don't worry, it has been tested and confirmed that All-day Sync will not drain the battery on your phone or your Ionic faster than usual.

To enable All-day Sync tap on Account > Ionic and scroll down until you get the option to enable it. Then go back to the Dashboard and pull down the screen to force a sync. If the Ionic is not syncing, force-quit the app, open it again and try to sync again.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

@MarcoGFitbit Enough is enough. Getting a $300 Ionic is massive disappontment. Jumping back on what still perfectly works after 2 years of heavy use. Hope fitbit will fix Ionic’s syncing issues very soon!

Since 12/26/18 I’ve been resetting, reinstalling and following all the ridiculous steps from the help center to make it work. I don’t understand why they can’t admit they messed up with the Ionic and it’s NOT compatible with iOS any longer. None of the apps work, getting error messages and nothing is syncing. So much for “smart”!

UPDATE:

Exactly. So unreliable. Same here. It’s been a week I’ve been wasting time. I wished they’d told me Ionic is not compatible with iOS and I would’ve replaced my faulty Blaze with another Blaze.

UPDATE 2:

What about the apps? Do they app work?

UPDATE 3:

Same here. Returning TODAY. so not worth the aggravation. The only bad part is that I don’t have a replacement and my Blaze died!

Seems this issue still isn’t resolved.

It took approx 10 minutes to pair iPad with replacement Ionic last night.

Knowing the problems I had when I first bought an  Ionic in July 2018, I left attempting to pair with phone until I knew I had some free time.

Unbelievably, but true, it has taken a total of NINE HOURS to pair iPhone 8plus today, with endless factory re-sets, shut downs, switching Bluetooth off and on, etc etc.

This really is not good enough, it’s obviously not an issue with Apple products and my Alta pairs with both iPad and iPhone easily enough. The massive problem is with the Ionic and it seems no amount of unhappy consumers on this board make a difference to the software team at Fitbit.

Now that I’ve reset the Ionic it is no longer paired with my iPad. I’ll have to live with that because if I have to reset again it will lose the pairing with my phone and I am NOT going through that performance again! I need the notifications from my phone more than data on my iPad so will reluctantly leave it there.

i can’t see me buying Fitbit again to be honest. I’ve been a fan and user for years, recommending to countless others, but they just can’t seem to rival Apple where smart watches are concerned.

Shawn, tried everything you mentioned (and everything else suggested in multiple post) and still watch won’t synch and loses time. In fact, when I shut it down and try to restart using left button it won’t boot up. Have to press left and lower right to get it to boot up. Still none of this corrects the synchronization issue nor the fact the ionic is losing time.
many other suggestions?
