Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.
If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:
We appreciate the additional details.
Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.
Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.
Update 7/15/2018:
Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.
Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.
Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.
While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.
Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.
Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

3 days and no fix. 3 days! Very frustrating! 😠 I've just downloaded a competitor app - MyNetDiary - which looks very good. This issue is losing you customers.

Loading food through the Fitbit website is simply not an option! It is such a clunky and un-user friendly portal with no options to link foods, it can only display a limited number of foods and you can't add new foods without knowing what the calories are - what's the point of that?!
That said Apple are notorious for being a pain and trying to force their products onto people - maybe this is their way of getting us to move?
Whatever, this needs to be fixed and fast. If I get out of the habit of logging food then I simply will not go back to it.

@Jenkins17 I know about coding. And they know which part of the "billions" is wrong. it's just the food tracking part. And the error is reproducable. If it's reproducable they can debug it easily.
When we enter a certain food it always picks the same wrong one. They must have screwed something up regarding picking the food ID. Such thing really isn't that difficult to fix. The main food engine is not affected because android and the web interface are still selecting the right food.
iOS is just adding instead of e.g banana -> UID == 3457153 it adds UID != 3457153
And if they properly document their changes in the code, they would be quick in finding a fix.
And what's holding them back in reverting to the previous version? First I thought maybe with the new version they introduced a change in the backend DB schema. But that can't be it, because android and web is not affected.

I also have the issue. When I ADD food it takes it in. Toen it seems so proces something and it disappears.
Is it depending on how many inputs of food you did in past? Is it depending on how many own doods you put in? This is the feeling i al getting. I work on iPhone 7.

I was prepared to wait a day or so for this to be resolved but three days is ridiculous! If you are unsure what the problem is just let us reload the previous version until you have found a fix!! Anyway, you’ve lost me - I’ve had a look at a few other apps and I’m moving over to one of those. Sorry but you don’t seem to really care about your customers at all!

Iphone 7, my iphone uodate to version 2.53 of the app and am having same frustration as everyone else, the ipad is still running the old version of the app and it’s working fine. Anycompatible apps we can use to log food unto while this issue gets solved? or at least is there a way to revert to the old app version? A bit difficult to use the online dashboard on the go since the interface is very much designed for a desktop pc and not a touch screen....

I totally agree. It should have been sorted by now
They are aware of the problem and are working on it. They have advised logging food on the website for the time being

Another day and still the fault exists. This is getting ridiculous for a fault that is impacting Fitbit users at a global level.
Stating that Fitbit are working on the issue is a poor excuse for an update. Try answering basic questions Fitbit are being asked by their customers or provide a sense of direction such as:
1. Are fitbit going to roll back the update?
2. Some basic info about the fault such as you know the fault is in the device app or backed infra, or a new version of the device app update is undergoing testing and will be released shortly. Just to give people news.
3. I know the Fitbit customer service team will have a golden rule not to publicity provide a specific resolution date. However you can at least provide a high level view if this will be fixed in the coming days... (i.e. will not be Weeks).
Entering the food via the website on an iPhone is not realistically practical in the medium term. This is no longer a short term work around as this fault has been running for many days now.

An estimated fix time would be nice.

For people haring the email notificatio. Here is how I solved it.
Made a new entry
Untaghed the «email me when someone replies» thing, and after receving the latest updates (the entriws before I untaggled it), I no longer get any email notifications.
So new entry and untagg the thing 🙂 hope thks helps people.
«Twitter» did get back to me with the standard «we are aware of the problem, be patient»....
I can just imagine them being like some of the people at work: «So our department is leaving early today, me ... why? Well its such a nice weather outside. Me thinking: well I still have 7 hours out of 12 left to be here but sure, you leave after only 4 hours because the weather is nice...
This is what I am picturing happening. Them taking a loong weekend to enjoy nice weather...
Comeon fitbit, just roll back the last version! That was working fine! The new update did say «bug fixes» but it was at least working!!

Ok time to bite the bullet as sounds like Fitbitvare not going to fix this any time soon if the issue has now been 3+ days.
if this is impacting us Apple device users has anyone found an app that we can log food into which then syncs the food updates back into Fitbit?

I’m getting the same problem. You know, I’m not sure that Fitbit are that good anymore. I’ve had to replace my Aria scales with the Aria 2 because the Body Fat % measurement stopped working, then there was an issue with the Aria 2 not syncing with the App. I had a Flex 2 wristband but did away with that as it seemed to be overstating my daily steps. Now this food logging issue. I nearly bought a Versa a few weeks ago but decided against it and bought an Apple Watch instead. I’m glad I did. Apart from the glitches, I really think Fitbit could communicate with us more effectively.

Can you not re-release the previous version until you have resolved the issue!

I’m holding off upgrading to see what the Apple Watch version 4 improves on. From reading wearable or tech website news posts with rumours suggesting maybe sleep tracker and maybe longer battery, (and maybe smaller bezel so almost edge to edge). The sleep tracker and battery are the 2 triggers for me to switch.I’ll just upgrade my family’s trackers and scales to the Apple eco system.

Has anyone found an app that we can log food into which then syncs the food updates back into Fitbit?
Can my fitness pal do that?
i see I can transfer from Fitbit into other apps, but just thinking if I can use another mobile app any sync the data into Fitbit as a workaround (as the web page workaround round is not practical for viewing and entering via an iPhone)

Iphone 6 and IOS 11.4, same issues since yesterday 11 Jul 2018, after I was told by my fitbit app that it does some ‘clean-up’. This is now additional to the other current major prob I encounter, which also seems to be well known and reported, that the heart-rate and calories- burnt are regularly substantially overstated during activities like walking, using my fitbit Blaze. Very disenchanted, was happy initially after having switched from apple watch because of their poor service, but may have to reconsider?
