Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.

Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:

      • Are you already updated to 2.53.1?
      • What is the OS version that you are running on your iPhone?
      • What food database are you using?(See Account>Advanced Settings>Food Database).
      • What language are you using the app in?
      • What foods are you trying to log?
      • What specific interaction are you doing that is not working? (Adding, editing, deleting, scanning).
      • What time/date did you see the issue?

We appreciate the additional details.

Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.

Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.

Update 7/15/2018:

Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.

Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.

Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.

While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.

Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.

Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

I see this has been reported but I am also having issues with the update.  Only a few food items will add into my daily intake, most appear very briefly and disappear within seconds.  As stated, I can add them through my computer website but that's not satisfactory.  I hope this update gets unscrewed ASAP.

I do not use the Food Log and I still have the CPU overload problem?

Doesn’t work on iPad version 11.4.1 either. Logging online vs app is very inconvenient. Can’t scan food, hard to locate previously logged items, etc.

Please fix this. Thanks

I have been trying to log my food on the dashboard. It says to drag and drop my food onto a time, but I cannot do this? I am working on an iPad.

I am grateful for all help as I keep my weight down using this and I am finding it difficult without this feature!

Thanks Julie51

You guys are better than this, it’s been four days now and you still haven’t fixed a problem that you created the updating software.

I called the contact number and spoke with a representative. I was told
there were issues with the food input feature and they would be working to
resolve the problem. When I saw that others had been commenting their
difficulties I thought I would add mine.

This is so frustrating!

I had to resort to using another app that would sync to the fitbit so that I could still log food.

I'm using MyFitnessPal temporarily to log food and macronutrients to Fitbit, maybe you should try that for now until this issue is fixed. It does the job for now but still this isn't acceptable from Fitbit, it's been 4 days now! I want to get back to using my Fitbit to log the food as I've always done in the past.

Please hurry and get this issue fixed, and keep issues like this in mind in future whenever you think of creating more updates. Smiley Sad

I could not say it any better.  They will be losing customers to apple if this goes on much longer.  Terrible customer service.

Although you can use the regular Fitbit website to log food right now, it is NOT as user friendly like the app. Please fix the app soon! Thank you!

Ok another alternative to using the dashboard is to use Myfitness pal as this syncs with Fitbit. I’ve just set it up and my Fitbit data was transferred like recent food etc. It’s a really nice app, and if you at UK based the bar code scanner works (Fitbit doesn’t outside of US apparently). The data isn’t syncing back to Fitbit dashboard at the moment but according to info via Fitbit compatable apps help it should do (either another fault with Fitbit app or related to this current food database issue maybe)

FYI copy / paste from Fitbit compatable apps help:

“Connect your Fitbit and MyFitnessPal accounts, and see all your nutritional meal summaries, macronutrients and other MyFitnessPal data in your Fitbit account. You can also see calories burned as recorded by your Fitbit tracker in your MyFitnessPal account to get a more complete picture of your health.”

At at least when Fitbit have fixed the issue your data should sync back according to the above!

I'm glad MyFitnessPal is working for you too, it's a good temporary solution until Fitbit get their act together and sort out this problem.

I was a loyal BlackBerry user for years.  Then they crashed for days.  I moved to Apple.  This is now too long to get fixed. Especially as the former app worked fine.  There are options.  I don’t want to move over to Apple but will if this isn’t fixed soon.

There is no “iPad version 11.4.1,” which is another frustration I’ve had since I began using Fitbit devices, two and a half years ago.

Fitbit only has an iPhone app for the iOS platform. I keep expecting Fitbit to release an iPad version that has some functionality of the website (and works in landscape mode). In fact, I though I read something that indicated an iPad version was in the works, but perhaps that was just a rumor.

Right now, I’m like everyone else on this thread...I’d just be happy if the iPhone version worked! It’s particularly frustrating because I only track food about once or twice a year when I’m training for events, and wouldn’t you know that this glitch occurred right in the middle of my training.

Why don't your engineers just roll back whatever update they last did?  It's not that difficult to test updates before they are rolled out!   That is programming 101!    Fix this issue!

I updated my mobile software yesterday to ios 11.4.1. The app worked for the evening but this am its back to making crazy logs - Crumbled bacon when i put in 1% lactose free milk; self deleting when I log 1cup cantaloupe. Please advise on the fix

I am having multiple issues - the battery won’t maintain a charge but a few hours (charged 3 times in last 24 hours); food won’t log correctly; heart monitor won’t pick up; no active minutes detected (ran 5K with no active minutes); and sleep detection was sporadic and is now non-functioning.

But how long is it going to take!?! It's not convenient at all and for the price of my Fitbit I would expect better. It's not like I paid $30.00 for the thing. I shouldn't have to find another App to do what this one is supposed to do.
