Keep getting location prompts on app

I am so beyond frustrated with this pop up asking to enable location services. I finally caved and put it on Always only to get notifications that the location service had been running constantly for an extended period of time. I never had this issue until recently. I’ve been a huge fan of FitBits and have had multiple ones over the years but these updates are making me consider spending extra money and getting an Apple Watch just so I don’t have to deal with the annoying and incessant pop ups. If I click “No thank you” they should be the end of it. I shouldn’t have the same pop up every single time I open the app.

It happens every single time I use the Fitbit app. If I accidentally tap the Fitbit app when swiping to another app, and forget to close the popup, it stacks the popup so I get to close multiple popups the next time I actually use the app. I tried your log out, force stop, restart phone, log on and it didn't work.

The only way to not have this frigging pop up is to either keep the app closed, or set location services to Always.

But I'm not going to set location services to "Always." Why? Because when I set location services to "Always," the Fitbit app gives me a popup telling me how often location services accessed my device and asks me if I want to disable "Always" location services. And if I do, then I get the original popup the next time I open the app.

The good new is, I have found a solution to both popup problems. Whereas last year I used the app at minimum daily (for sleep, exercise and resting heart rate tracking), I have now simply stopped using it at all, except for specific workouts, which I often forget to track. If the issue isn't resolved by the time my present Fitbit dies, Fitbit goes into the trashcan along with the dead device.

I have also tried all the “quick fixes” I have seen here but still get the pop ups. Turning off location, restarting phone, changing it to only when using the app. Tried turning off Bluetooth.

Since I’ve updated my Charge 4 I am unable to turn off the GPS at all and when I open the app on my phone I’m greeted with GPS and Location settings notifications. It’s driving me mad, any help on this would be appreciated. I don’t want GPS on for the simple reason it drains battery life, I don’t need the location settings as I know where I am, where I’ve been and not needed as I don’t want GPS on!! How do I turn it off??

I'm having the same issue.  Not only does it give me the message when I open the app, it will often re-display the same message when I exit one of the detail pages and go back to the main page.  I neither need nor want gps tracking.

Hi

I think I may have found a solution to it. I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it. When it asked me about push notification I tapped No Thanks. It hasn’t done it since 🤞🏼 But I went through all the settings re GPS and there’s no way of actually turning of completely as far as I can see, I’ve just managed to stop the annoying messages popping up when I open the app. Hope this helps

Yes still had text and phone notifications but it didn’t stop the location settings messages from popping up, it’s infuriating. It’s the smallest thing but really annoys me!!

Hi @MelVic and @ApparentlyLucid Welcome to the Community Forums.

I understand how frustrating this can be and thanks for every step tried prior to posting. Usually the location settings prompt will appear when opening the exercise tile to track an activity using Mobile Run. Because this isn't the case, may I know the model of your phone? Is the Fitbit app updated on your phone? Do you recall since when you started getting this prompts on the Fitbit app? These details will help me to further investigate on my end.

@MelVic About the GPS settings on your Charge 4, please restart your tracker to refresh its performance. Then try turning off the GPS settings on the Settings app, as well in the Exercise app of your tracker one more time.

By the way, I've moved yours posts to this new thread so you can have more chances to receive help from the Community, and to keep our forums organized.

I’m with you. I have iPhone 8 and Fitbit Versa. The location prompt just started popping up constantly for me last week. I currently use the app to track my activity and what I eat, so I have to deal with the pop up frequently. Google is behind it. They want your location. BAD. Plain and simple. I’m looking for an alternative to Fitbit without going to Apple. I’ve had a good run with my Fitbit but I’m done.

I'm sorry you continue getting that message and so I can forward your details to our team for further investigation, please provide me with the following information:

  • What Fitbit device are you using?
  • Are you using GPS either on your phone or the Fitbit device?
  • What is the OS/software version of your phone?
  • On the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture > Help & Support and let me know the Fitbit app version.
  • If possible, take a screenshot of the message displayed on the Fitbit app and attach it to your reply.

iPhone 8, latest iOS and app version, and brand new Charge 4: my first (and last) fitbit.

Literally every time I switch to the FitBit app, there's a popup: "Location Access & Bluetooth Sharing: Set Allow Location Access to Always to track (...)".

And my answer is, no. You don't get to know my phone's location all the time. That's why I got a Charge 4 that has built-in GPS, so IT can track my runs, so what's all this nagging for about using my phone's location?

I’ll try it! Anything to get rid of that dang text!

Does anyone have the annoying “allow gps” tracking EVERY SINGLE TIME you go into the Fitbit app? How do I turn this off? I’m not going to turn on gps location.

Hello,

Please, you guys look at what you changed with the last eat update and change it back. There is absolutely no reason why I must have GPS tracking on with a Versa 2.

Thanks!

No, Lizzy. This wasn’t happening two weeks ago. It’s up to you to look into the issues and FIX them. I had an Apple Watch and switch back to Fitbit a year ago. Now, this issue is making me re-think my decision.

Thanks!
