Fitbit Update 5/22/2019:
Hey all,
Today we've released the latest Fitbit for iOS app version 2.94. In this new app version, we've temporarily disabled this notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized." We will continue to assess all the user feedback and work to improve this experience.
Please update the Fitbit app if you haven't yet. I'm now closing this thread from further comments. Thanks again for all your feedback!
Fitbit Update 5/13/2019:
Hi Everyone- Based on customer feedback, we are working on an update to the notification and hope to have further information to share soon. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your feedback.
Fitbit Update 4/18/2019:
I've merged a few threads together. Receiving the notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized" after closing out of the Fitbit app is expected behavior. The Fitbit app needs to run in the background in order to enable features like all-day sync and notifications. If you are double tapping the home button, or swiping up into multi-tasking, and then swiping to close the app, you should see this message.
I appreciate your feedback and have passed it on to the team. I hear that you are unhappy with this notification. Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.
We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble.

Fitbit better get the issue fixed
No this is NOT expected behavior. Not before the last update. So your "solution" is a LIE.
And the passive aggressive threat you included in your "solution" about cross posting is a great way to LOSE customers.
Most of us close down active apps to retain battery power. Requiring it to continue running is bullcrap. Add to that the blank face issue (yes I have had ti happen and had to use the change the clock face solution to fix it) and apparently fitbit has gotten too big for its own good.
I only bought a charge 3 because you stopped making replacement bands for my 1 yr old charge 2. clearly I should have listened to others an bought an apple watch instead.
Why are we “required” to leave the app running 24/7 on our phones? Is this some attempt to collect user data? I have NEVER heard of any app requiring you to keep it running on your phone all day. This makes absolutely no sense and Fitbits very poor attempt to lamely “resolve” this issue is unacceptable. You pushed an update to users which is now creating what I can only call some glitch. It cannot be that hard to correct the update you LITERALLY just pushed to every user. We all are experiencing the same frustrations so why don’t you actually do something about it?!?!? This is ludicrous and seriously makes me, and I’m sure many others rethink about support Fitbit in the future. I’m sure we would all appreciate a reasonable response with an actual solution ASAP.
It may be expected behaviour to the team but it’s not to me. I don’t want a notification telling me to open the app when I’ve just closed it. Fitbit is literally the only app that does this. Poor form Fitbit.

Is anyone else having the same issue?
About a month ago I upgraded from a Charge 2 to a Charge 3. However over the last couple of days, when I close the iphone app (i.e completely shut down by swiping up) I now get a notification saying 'Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized' I'm sure I didn't have to have the app open all the time before as it drains battery... But if its not synchronizing does this mean the notifications to 'move' etc wont work?
Thanks in advance
Moderator edit: updated subject for clarity
Best AnswerI have All-Day Sync turned off and I’m still getting the message. As the other posters have said it only started after the update last night. It is draining the battery on my phone having to leave the app running in the background to stop the annoying message.
As an app developer I would expect this kind of app behavior but only from a virus.
@Gooders1 I saw this for the first time last night, I guess I usually keep my app open in the background! I didn't notice any lack of notifications and Reminders to Move seemed to work like normal. I keep all-day sync on, so I'm not worrying about it not syncing.
Best AnswerI have also been having this problem nonstop since update yesterday. I had to turn off Allow Notifications in my iPhone settings to make it stop. I found it extremely annoying!
Best AnswerPlease get rid of this. It still pops up when you turn off all day sync. It never did this before, nobody likes it! I think we can all agree that usually the only time we open up the app is when we want our Fitbit to sync with the app.

Best AnswerHow could this issue be marked as 'solved'? it is far from solved!
In fact, after 5 years of using the App with several fitbit products, this is so annoying that if it doesn't get solved soon I will change brands.
This gets very annoying as I'm getting this notification EVERY time I close Fitbit on my iPhone. I am thinking something was changed in the last upgrade as it's never done this before.
